Nope. Couple of million of us tried to stop it...
Notice they haven't put the fuel mileage allowance up for several years, still 40p as it has been since before the last few fuel hikes, guess i'll have to 'adjust' my mileage claim to compensate wink .
OH - GOD - Please dont start me off - reminds me of the the SNOW WHITE FILM - I OWE I OWE ITS OFF TO WORK WE GO !!!! - Its always the frigin motorist - he`s had the crunch at smokers now its us !!!! they will bring the tax back on windows in your homes soon like the blinkin dark ages !!!! - THE GRINCH !!!!!!!!!!! :taz:
dunno :dunno:
You pays your money and takes your choice!
I have no problems in paying more per litre, just as I have no problems in paying income tax, VAT or any other tax which the UK imposes. We are a wealthy nation and should be supporting education, hospitals and welfare state and, whilst we're doing that we should be thanking all the lucky stars you believe in that we are able to moan, whinge, gripe and pay taxes. I'd rather pay up than 1) receive or 2) be in a country where I'm unable to pay up.
Moan about gas prices being hiked up for the umpteenth time by the greedy corporations whilst the price of wholesale gas has dropped - again!
mad this country isnt run by the government its run by the civil service they have pals who need to work, so they create an office sit him in it give him a desk and a computer and say now think of ways to raise money from the masses to pay your salary. Now he doesnt want to tax his brain too much and in his turn he too has a pal who needs a job soooo on and on it goes and the gov coffers run dry cos of all the pals who dont actually do anything to contribute to the wealth and prosperity of this country :x :x :x :x rant over ooo and by the way i voted at the last election but not for this stupid lot so cant blame me for not trying to get something different lol
But will Gordon-the-Bastard actually do anything usefully green with the money because he hasn't so far, or will it be just another general tax grab LIKE ALL THE OTHER TIMES?

One Conservative MP interviewed for tv tonight said "this tax isn't green, it's Brown"
Classic!!
Surely making car travel prohibitively expensive is in and of itself a "green" initiative, regardless of where the revenue goes?
It might be a green option Steve, but the problem is what happens to those that are unable to use the public transport system? dunno
Steve has to have a car as he works 4pm till midnight and there is no public transport near where he works that runs at that time of night. Even if it did it would take him approx 1hr 30 minutes to get home because of the distance involved and having to change buses 3 times....
I have to have a car as I have to ensure I can get to our daughters school for 5pm as that is when the after school facility closes. As I finish work at and would have to take 2 buses to get there it is not possible for me to do this.
We have a 4x4 as we pull a caravan. The car is the one that is the most suitable for the van we have. Because of this we continue to holiday in this country and our children get to enjoy the great outdoors almost every weekend from March to Oct. Perhaps Mr Brown would prefer that we holiday in a foreign country :dunno:
What really pisses us off though is that you can buy a 7.5 Tonnes van and pay less in road tax than we do with the 4x4 rolleyes So what genius thought that one up??
For the likes of Mr Brown and Mr "two Jags" it's okay.... They are driven most places or have access to a very comprehensive public transport system because of where they work.... Alas we are not in the same position....

Good point Shireen.
I work in the community so have to use my own car to get to patients. It would be impossible for me to use public transport for work so while 'going green' is environmentally a welcome idea, there will always be people who have to use their cars.
Meaty, you're right about the allowance too. I'm still being paid 40p a mile which has been the same rate for far too long.
Jags mentioned the gas companies ripping us off too and that pisses me off too but here's a question for you VAT experts. When you buy food, you don't pay VAT on essential items. It's not charged on kids clothing ( at last ) Now, correct me if I'm wrong but wouldn't you class heating and lighting as an essential commodity? If so, why the heck are we paying VAT on it? :dunno:
and don't get me started on VAT on feminine products mad

it is VAT ratd but at 5%, another 'Green Tax'
(I wonder if Blair & Brown pay their own fuel bills for the accomodation area of their plush state funded abodes rolleyes)

Same here, and then you hit the 6,000 Official Miles around this time of year and the rate drops even further (25p per mile)!
If I could get to my place of work by public transport, I would definately not travel by car, but it would take me around 2 hours each way, assuming that I get my connections and none of the trains/trams are cancelled. Ok, so I could look for another job nearer to home, but with the present cut backs being made within the Civil Service (30-40,000 job cuts before 2008), I am lucky to be in a job.
I could get a smaller car, but again, I do alot of business mileage (for the Government) and a small car is not as practical (believe me, I have tried it) confused Oh well, another big dent in my salary, which last year rose by less than 2.5%, but I can't complain, cause Im one of those civil servants who sit in an office all day, thinking up jobs for my mates rolleyes I wish!
I heard something about Ken Livingston putting so called green tax an vans now which will push up the cost of everything in London

is that limited to your employer as i'm allowed 10000 before the rate drop dunno
i have to use a car as i can just imaged being cold out at night to an emergency in hospital and wait 20mins for a bus. i also have an ambulances to run which costs as well

Mine's 10,000 pa too
Once again I say turn to LPG
You get an allowence of 40 ppm.
LPG costs about 41 ppl (thats the price I pay)
You get more than a mile from 41p of gas so it pays to go green.
Oh eff-it. I am off back to do my infant maths again.

Iremember a cartoon once with everyone leaving the country in masses - and a sign saying " WOULD THE LAST ONE PLEASE TURN THE LIGHTS OUT !!!! So if its not global warming thats going to kill us off it will probably be bye being over taxed to death instead !!! LOL
