Hiya Furby......may i just say i had a stroke in 2005 due to smoking, and at 40 yrs of age was a total shock to me,at the time i didn't pack in smoking......i should have but didn't,ive tried twice since then,i found the nasel spray n patches good, but was using them as a substitute,i did manage to keep off them for 14 weeks which was good for me,even if you can manage a few weeks will bring your blood pressure down.,if you are getting the symptoms,i strongly advise you too stop, from someone who has had a stroke and still has problems two yrs Luck to you,you can do it. thanks for the help guys
Furbs you dont need their permission to use the forum. Its her for us all...you should know by now they hijack many threads and rip them apart not offering anything useful to it...do as I and so many others do...ignore their comments as they only seem to take pleasure in destroying others... theres lots of gen people on here who will reply and offer some good advice xxx remember the forums are for all..not run and commanmded by a few
Furbs keep up the good work
you have missed the whole point ............ im not looking for sympathy im not a weak person .. i was aksing.. (il say it again slowly ) for hints an tips on how other people quit and what worked for them.......(again il say it slowly)... i am at the docs on wednesday for the medcial advise and i was going to take the tips with me to speak to my doctor to see if any are suitable for me......... is that easier to understand..
not once have i asked for medical advice.. i have only asked for hints an tips to help now...... are we clear?
she isnt after sympathy but some friendly support which we all find we need at different times in our lives for many things which test us along our journey through life....to be preached to isnt always the way to help someone theres many differnet ways to offer assistance without being abrupt about it...and going to the doctors doesnt work for everyone i know many who have been and failed but found success in other ways to quit smoking
thankyou thats why i started the thread as it clearly states i am going back to docs on weds to talk about other ways.. but wanted help first from ex smokers who have been there an done that .. some how it got off a tangent and hijacked... but the meaning is still there .. ive had some great tips of you guys thankyou very much ..........

Well, I am medically qualified and to be honest, there are many good ideas here on how to give up smoking and some bloody awful ones. Basically, the true cure all depends on what type of person you are. Stress will increase your blood pressure, but only temporarily so my advice would be to gather as much info as possible from the NHS Quit Smoking helpline and choose the options that you feel would be easiest on you mentally. Cold turkey isn't a good idea - your body has existing nicotine levels that will have to be brought down gradually, so patches, gum etc. Reduce alcohol and caffeine considerably. Hypnosis, if not completely effective, will also help your mental state to cope with the loss of nicotine. Giving up any addiction is not easy, so give yourself a goal - not a negative like "I might die", but a postive such as "I'll be able to buy those new thigh boots with the money I save in a month!"
Best of luck.
