So there I was chanel hopping a couple of sundays ago.I just happened to land on Beeb 2 as TOTP was starting.
"Hmmmmmm wonder what this is like these days?"I thought.
I saw they had a live exclusive with some Yank band,Green Day,who I have heard of but but not heard and thought they were probably some 3 chord loud ,musically inept trashy skater/surfy band.
Boy was I wrong!!!!!!They did a number called"Jesus of suburbia",which is about 10 minutes long with 5 different section to !!!!!!! is all I can their combined album and dvd last thursday and listened to it for the first....oh,I guess 10 times yesterday and went and got "American Idiot",their grammy winning latest studio album music and socially and politically aware lyrics too.
Just got to see the dvd soon as I haven't got round to it to show that there is still vital, vibrant music out there amongst all the dross that is about.
If you like Rock and don't know this band, then check them out.
I am such a happy bunny now. biggrin :D :D :D :D

Well said NN.
I remember going to see Green Day at the Reading Festival, I think that was back in August 1995 and they'd released a couple of albums by then (Dookie was the latest one, IIRC).

I saw them at Reading last year, headlining on sunday night, listening to them perform " time of my life (good riddance)" as the closing song of the festival as a relationship crashed and burned around me... sad but unforgetable...
They are brill, saw them back in June at the Milton Keynes Bowl, fantastic.......... worship  So good to see a truely talented band, who so obviously enjoy what they are doing... lol

I was once walking away from a pub - and a relationship - and I walked past a busker who was playing that song. I gave him all the money I had on me. A very special song, always brings a lump to my throat.

Are you on commision or something???
I've seen them a few times since I was in high school! lol Yep that is HIGH SCHOOL! They've been going for a while now! :D
The last performance I saw was at Roskilde Festival in denmark and they had just done live8 so were a bit ropey and tired out. I'd think twice about seeing them again unless they released an absolute stonker of an album or I got free tickets. :D
kiss
Gem. x
did i hear green day mentioned biggrin :D
it's taken you this long to hear of them,
i first saw the band back in 1993, then there was no looking back. every album they have released has had different elements, such a varied style. this is one american band who for me actually looked at punk, and said, this is how it should be done in this day and age.
just for referance, back cat of albums to buy/listen to.
dookie...1st and best..(in my opinion)
insomniac...
nimrod..great mix of styles
warning
Green Day are fantastic worship :worship: :worship:
And like FB our kids are well trained too lol
oh i did also mean to mention, basket case is still my favorite song and video biggrin

They are ok, but I still prefer the real thing. My son (age 13) loves 'Green Day' till I played him some 'Stiff Little Fingers' then he realised he was listening to a tribute band lol
But, in all honesty, Green Day are fine, they have commitment and are entertaining...a good combination (I'm just a cynic who has seen it all before lol)
Wow !!!!!!Didn't realise that I would be would be slated as some sort of wanker just because I had never listened to Green Day before!!!!!! Better go back to my Led Zep and the other 550 odd cds I own,not to mention the 400 odd tapes and about 250 pieces of vinyl I still old tosser me.

LOL! not slated :P (and nothing wrong with being a wanker round here wink )
They have only been mainstream for the last couple of years anyway.
As for Led Zep, I always prefered Pink Floyd  but would love to run my hands over your vinyl collection......mine all got ruined by my son when he was 'practicing' to be a DJ!
your not slated from this end, just glad you have discovered them, but you must check out the back catalogue.
this aging punk needed some new listening matter and discovered green day and foo fighters at the same time, well with the likes of the clash, pistols, banshee's, etc not touring (although siouxsie does tour solo nowadays), i needed something, and green day filled that gap perfectly........bring on the mosh........(pogo, grapple etc)
note...damned and slf still do tour,
anyone have any news of peter and the test tube babies???
now, where are my tartan bondage trousers

Hmmm Green Day - they used to be an alternative punk band before they sold out didnt they?!
Lol
If you're going to buy the album, go for Dookie instead - its a classic!

Agreed
Too naive punk, IMO. A little child of DK, The Exploited...even Offspring.
They are not too bad, but....
Better try Capdown. It`s ska/core/punk. Amazing!

I started on amrican idiot with my 12 year old son
We was blown away by it and went to see then at Nottingham ice center this year
We are now more addicted to the records they brought out before American Idiot
Early stuf is more basic and gritty (basket Case) is my all time favorite of the Dookie album
Best punk band ever ever
Also we went to see Good Charlotte at Rock City this year top live act well worth spin
Bi-Guy-Notts
listen to the lyrics of pulling teeth....it reminds me of this place sometimes....
saw them at T in the park this year! pretty good stuff but i definately prefer the older stuff! maybe not as musically brilliant and well produced - but raw, as music should be........
