you could start a whole new thread ,(..unsnipped) and maybe its a very worthy one given the way this forum is these days on just what is judging, bullying, trolling and opinion belittleing, thread spoiling and so on and so on...
i think it would just end up in a heap of argument as opposed to debate but i honestly think sometimes people can see no further than their own feelings and have little or no consideration for the impact their posts have on others and theirs.
I am reluctant to reply because as you start commenting I am going to have to scroll down past the biggest signature I have ever seen in my life. wink

it's true though, I've had an avid interest in another thread with much to say to stick up for ALL parties, then along comes someone who normally has plenty to say in other threads but nothing in that particular one and damns me for talking to much!
Priceless!
Staggie, this could end up a very interesting thread. :uhoh:
ive squidged it up smaller just for you...it was even bigger when the donkey was on it.

In general, we would agree with that - no make that 98% of the time that def happens wink
i noticed . was just about to comment on it too...however seeing as you are here ...and also seeing as i havent had a thread locked in ages...
maybe it steps over the line when an opinion is given but aimed specifically at someone else,.. or maybe it doesnt...
staggy
there's a echo in here lol
i hate self righteous people on this forum who feel the way they swing is right and everyone else is doing it wrong and their opinion on anything else is final confused
It is possible to disagree with someone and have stron view points. It can be done in a non-ruthless way too.
Why is it necessary to use strong language and tactics to incite bad feelings in others? This I don't get.
In saying that, a heated discussion benefits other readers if its animated and provocative. Making the place less bland I suppose.
re lairds comments..didnt see that so cant comment..
anyway this isnt about whether a thread should be locked or not is it?? its more about behaviour on here and what makes this place stink like a bucket of maggots you had forgot about for two months or smell as nice as a bowl of raspberries on a summers day..
'
its how people percieve what is being said, ive seen it many times and been accused of it all too often , a 'perception of text taken out of spirit or in the wrong way...
i mention this because this is how an opinion can be an insult...
it cant be helped that when you say
eg
'i love wearing latex' jim says
with a reply of
'people who wear latex disgust me' fred says
two opinions , fine if a little questionable...but i know for a fact poor jim now has hurt feelings, un avoidable but hardly nasty..
however had fred said
'you disgust me jim' maybe thats a little different
oh i dunno , the perils of forums

staggy rolleyes lol

Yep and I also hate it when people start getting nasty with directed comments to me or others when there's abs no need.
People can post passionately and in my case I quite often stick up for others, maybe it's my line of work I don't know, either way it's very upsetting
I also hate it when a thread gets locked for a while and the topic spills out into another thread making me think about pulling them both which I hate doing mad

What she said ^^^^^^
I'll stand up for anyone's right to an opinion, however much it differs from my own, but despise those who try to tell others what they should and shouldn't do, think or post.
The great thing about being able to re read peoples posts on profiles is the realisation that not everyone is perfect. Everyone now and then is guilty of pushing their opinions on others.
I stand up and say what I think unfortunately it can get me into bother, doesn't make me a bad person I just like to stand up for others.
Having been bullied most of my childhood I now find it easy to stand up for myself and others and I think that's a good thing.
I could never/would never try and change people's minds, if anyone ever thought that, then I'm truly sorry, it's not my intention. sad
The forum is a weird place to be at times, sometimes it brings out the good in people, sometimes the bad, it shouldn't bring out the nasty tho.

in a conversation like this, perhaps Jim has every right to feel insulted... Fred states his disgust in the people who wear latex...
If Fred had said: "wearing latex disgusts me" it would be the act of wearing latex, not the people who do it to which Fred is expressing his distaste.
Though I would immediately assume that Fred is really sat at home in a full gimp mask made from old kitchen gloves and laccy-bands... dispising himslef in a sad and sorry state of self loathing and denial.
not that I'd tell him. Oh no.

Is this an attempt at appeasement? rolleyes
I am quite an objective person (too much at times) and do look at it from the other person/s point of view when I add to a thread... even if what they say isnt my opinion. Some posters do come very close to the mark at times. confused :?
An I do have a pet hate (if you can call it hate :? ) and thats swearing (I got called goody-two-shoes at school because I didnt swear lol)in posts...using swear words does emphasis on the strength of feeling a poster may have about an issue. It depends on the contex of how its said/written and as long as it isnt aimed at a person wouldnt be seen as agressive.
I dont sit here tapping my fingers in frustration that people swear just feel that at times it just wasnt needed or another less stronger word could have been used...
I do enjoy reading others opinions, they can give another perspective that I havent previously considered... but Im amazed how many go in for the kill especially on newcomers.

Shurrup you and paint something....
this thread has touched mildly on what we can perhaps describe as nastiness in posts, it seems its a case of how things are perceived aligned alongside how they are said... sometimes maybes its our choice of take on something, why would someone get pissed with me for saying that...well because they can, and it makes good sport on forums..
keeping this thread on track takes me to another irritation for some, thats thread spoiling, there are threads that get locked on here for all manner of reason and posts that get removed for various reasons, one of which i have never seen is thread spoiling?
many of us have done it some do it more than others, im sure they get their kicks out of it...i have little or no problem on the 'funny' threads. a hijak there can be equally as funny, its when threads of some substance get taken appart by going completely off topic for no good reason...
lets say the mushy peas comment up there ^ in itself not a problem, but all too often its develops from that into a thread spoiler... the usual suspects jumping in with one word replies...maybe a little time controlling that sort of thing could be useful from the moderators..?
i said a while back i was past caring and thought this forum had gone so far downhill it wasnt worth the effort any more, it seems having spilled my feelings here a bit more i still do care, it will in my opinion take very careful moderation to undo the damage that has been done to this place and to return it to the thriving forum it once was..
the themes involved in this thread i think you will find is where most people have their concerns, well its what people tell me spoils this place..for soem...others seem to enjoy it.. rolleyes

You're not serious  , over moderation is one of the things that IMO was killing this site...I can't believe anyone would want more of it.

Humm wonders if he dare say what he thinks....
Nope....but one of the reasons i do hijack and stay out of the more serious threads is I cant be arsed with all the bollox that goes into them...

I wouldn't say a collective, no. But there are some peacemakers in here, certainly.
