......and if it was shite?
Well then it'd be shite! lol
Rock/Pop, whatever label you want to give it, is ephemeral by it's very nature - music for a generation to get drunk, high, dance or get laid by (or any combination of two or more of the same).
If it was 78/79 they were already being moved over and losing relevance to the youth teenage market - and like many others mellowing with the advancing years of their audience (take Clapton as an example - Lay Down Sally! ffs), while younger hungrier new genres came to the fore.
In 78/79 I'd let Led Zep leave me behind (or had I left them behind?) and was getting my kicks from three chords and venom - three live gigs a week - the rd of choice no longer made you mellow but sped things up (perhaps things were different in the country).
Like the Pistols reunion tour, like every Stones tour since 1980 - it's a way to milk the cash cow that is an affluent fan base.
The spirit of the moment can't be recreated on account of Bonham's demise in the same way that The Who touring with Kenny Logan on drums is/was never the same as with Moonie with the sticks.
"No Elvis, Beatles or the Rolling Stones - It's 1977"
I have been to many many gigs over the years, big and small bands. Seen some very big bands in very small venues, seen Floyd 6 times and if they play again would i go ...Hell yes.
LZ are one group I never got to see along with Queen, although I did see them with Paul Rogers last time out at Brixton Acadamy. You can go to any gig and on that particular night be not as good as they could have been, that does not have to be old rockers.
I saw Rolling Stones on Voodoo lounge tour which at the time looked like it might be the last one, they played at a small venue like the acadamy (i forget ) and did not have the huge set up and stage to hide behind, and they were awesome I loved every minute of it.
If I'm lucky enough to get a ticket I will love it even if they might not be quite as good as they were in there hayday, but guess what they might actually play a blinder :!: :!: :!: :!:
I've just read on the Planet Rock website that the registration website for Zep tickets had over 1,000,000 000 hits. and over 1 million people actually registered.
Lots of luck to all who tried. I hope to be wearing a very smug grin on the 1st October.
