Not often that I post in here but I have just listened to a couple of Tracey Chapman tracks from years gone by and cannot believe how they have touched my emotions, now I do enjoy music of many genres but think its true to say theres a deffinate difference between knocking out a tune and a person who is a fantastic lyricsist, wether its someone voicing a political message as many do or those with an emotional message ...........well having said my piece am off to find summit else to listen to..
This to me epitomises soulful lyrics. Words that hit home with truth and with feeling, sometimes leaving one breathless with emotion
Tracey Chapman is a fantastic writer .... whatever happened to her?? Fast car gets me everytime.
I also think Alanis Morrisette was good with lyrics.
Sometimes politics seem to take over though ... I love Greenday but they have gone very political.
Feel the need to add a cpl of artists to my appreciation list ..........eric clapton , dire straits.
The Verve - The Drugs Don't Work. Apparently written for his aunt when she was dying - beautiful song and heartfelt lyrics that can't help but get me blubbing
oh, so very many.... ummmm the first that comes to mind is 'Accidental babies' with Damien Rice, It is such a heartfelt love song with original lyrics that blow my mind with their simplicity.
Actually move to tears ?? That is contextual.. so let me think.... ummm perhaps ' if your not the one' by Daniel Bedingfield. Many years ago when splitting from my long term partner she used to play this to me. I was already in a pretty bad place emotionally and her playing this song tortured me as I wanted to stay with her but knew that we really wouldn't be together forever. But everything did fit so well, superficially... ho hum lots of tears then.
First time I ever heard To Where You Are by Josh Groban was a few days after my Dad died. The words struck me like a cannonball, they said exactly what I was feeling at the time and still do
Mmmmm .....R.E.M. Everybody Hurts. A beautiful song which can relate to so many personal circumstances.
REM 'everybody hurts'
but the one that always makes me cry is Luther Vnadross 'Dance With My Father'
sooooooo goosebumpy and emotional for anyone whos lost their dad  The lyrics are so pertinent for many people who miss their dad.
Babe - Styx cos my dad always played it to my mam when he was about to leave to work abroad
Dont Speak - no doubt, when me and my ex husband were going through our split
alison krauss and robert plant - your long journey, i got this album for dad just before he died and this song always chokes me up
the fields of athenry - the dubliners cos apart from the content my dad always sang this at family parties
Fire-bomb Telecom.

Hurt - the Johnny Cash version, played at my best friend's funeral last year and I still can't listen to it again
Butterflies and Hurricanes by Muse - First time I heard this song I got goosebumps
There's a couple.
"When the Tigers Broke Free" by Pink Floyd is moving and thought provoking, not on a personal level, it just is.
"Wind Beneath My Wings" is another again not for anything personal to me, but I like the sentiments.
"Drive" by the Cars is one which moves me but I don't know why. I think maybe because it wa a hit during my formative years.
Voice of the Heart by The Carpenters can really get to me if i'm in the right mood, her voice is just amazing. Also On Days Like These by Matt Munro, not the Italian Job film version the single released after the film came out, it has such a wistfil quality
has anyone mentioned:
