Have to agree, Sadie.
There are some geniuses (geniuii?) out there, ain't there?
How am I gonna resist their charms?
Look on the bright side, where most 'other halfs' have their own name, or at least share a decent username (Venus and Mars, or Wilma n Fred) my poor better half is stuck with Mrs TallnHairy
Totally unfair as she isn't either of em smile Maybe someone could come up with a better name for her?
is ours ok???????

hey Sade,
Here's a novel idea,
What if everyone had to make an ad with thier OWN NAMES showing. Then in the forum and chat room everyone had to use the AD Number. Then everyone would know what everyone was looking for and there wouldn't be any mis-understandings

Or third most toxic metal known to man?
ouch! biggrin
often with computers when asked to make a password or choose a name I tend to look at the first thing I see at this desk, or try to pick something appropriate to the application. mostly I find this system works but then I am not that fussed and am happy to be administrator, user or just blank ! Sometimes the username fits in ways not obvious at first like "peenut" First a picture of "peanuts" , snoopy, charlie brown etc that happens to hang on my wall, next "pee fetish" wow! good name (although i'm not sure about that fetish now ) Also with games we can't all be " Hitler, gandauf, attila the hun etc and its often a pain having to do lateral thinking to just log on ! In real life I am not greatly impressed by nicknames and their deep meanings and associations. all possibly chosen witout any sort of logical thought !
So are we boring if we use real names?
Does joining SH mean you have to have a healthy dose of creativity?
There are enough user names I have to remember outside of this forum, never mind think of something other than your name that "conveys something about you" - I think names do just that - tell people who you are... No offence to anyone clever enough to have thought up a really smart one... smile
Well what makes me laugh is when I go in the chatroom and guys ask me if I'm M or F!
With a name like sunbunny? lol
Plonkers.
My username conveys my name.
I like things simple.

Ichose the name Eagerslut a few years ago because it reflected how I felt. Then I went through a patch for about 6 months when for various reasons I behaved myself and didn't get involved in any naughtyness via the internet. When I came back to it and tried to reinstate my name and email account it told me that the name was already taken!
I could have had Eagerslut2 but I thought that gave the impression that I was copying someone else (me FFS!). So I thought "Oh well, I'll be Eagerslut9. That may keep 'em guessing!". wink
I have been asked once in the Forum "Why Eagerslut9?". I don't remember giving an answer at the time though. dunno
Sometimes in people's posts or ads I see the word "eager" used as in "I'm eager to meet like-minded peeps" for example. Everytime I see that I think "Oi, just a minute, I'm Eager".
Now I think of myself as Eager more than as me with the name I was christened with! I've got so used to it now that I would feel very odd if I changed it.
I'm not entirely sure how it comes across to others but if they think "horny" then I'm happy with that. redface surprisedops:
Some of the names people choose make me wonder if anyone would ever reply to them, let alone want to meet them. I mean, would you find anything remotely attractive about someone who used handles like "suppuratingcockscab", "wet_fart" or "Mingerasshole"?
(and if anyone does have those names I'm not going to apologise but I do feel sorry for you)?
Some of the names on here are beautiful, some funny, some plain, some neutral, and some completely crass. All of them though, for me, conjure up an immediate mental image of the person and the persona they are projecting on the site. blink
It gets really fun though when you get to meet people for the first time and your preconceptions are tested. I've found a surprising number of people here are very appropriately named in fact, and I also find it interesting how their chosen handle gets shortened to a nickname type variant. If I heard someone in the street shout out "ES" I'd turn round instinctively! :P
Hmmmmmmmmmm..................that gives me an idea !
If anyone would like to meet me, try shouting it as you walk round the shops and see what happens lol
Don't worry about imposters, they wouldn't be able to prove it by showing you the genuine butterflies, er.....................and there really aren't 8 others out there, believe me!
In fact a better idea would be to nominate one person a week whose name we could all go around shouting out. It might be an eye-opener if a few people in a typical crowd came up to you and told you that they weren't, say, Sgt Bilko but they were in fact TallnHairy, peenut, Venus, Little Gem, KcKat etc., etc.
If there is a "Wet Fart" or "Suppuratingcockscab" out there don't bother please, 'coz I for one am not going to risk being sectioned for going around shouting it and I really don't want to meet you! Sorry.
So, if this idea appeals to anyone, can I ask for nominations for the name we go around shouting for the rest of this week? My suggestion would be to start with a Mod. So how about MISSCHIEF? That shouldn't get you locked up! Mind you, if the idea takes off we might all end up in the same fruit farm. Now that really might be fun!! :P :P
I hope some new members will join in the thread. On the whole we are a friendly bunch here.
Oooops, sorry I've just realised that this idea represents a blatant hijack of this post.    Please don't reply to that here. I may get round to putting up a post of my own about it and that would be the place to try shooting me! Thanks.
'I am unshockable, but must admit I am increasingly dumbstruck at the...errr...choice of names some of the new members choose. I may be wrong but one's name on SH should convey something of oneself...No? The rest can be gleaned from the profile and over the proceeding posts, responses, etc, etc
Without pointing fingers at people like "theslipperystick" , "mingelicka", etc, etc who have chosen names for their own reasons, however obtuse they seem to others here on the forum I think that to make it much easier for some new members to choose a suitable name we could compose a few and then the newbie could choose whichever one they feel best suits them.'

Hi
stick here, sometimes theslipperystick. Names that have been used for me by friends of mine for more years than I can remember.
If anyone thinks that stick, or theslipperystick is inappropriate or indeed too 'obtuse' then please feel free to call me by my real name Isaac.......Isaac Hunt lol or ........really now...........I am Martin, or call me what you will.
Blessings cool
confused: Should Medic_1 become "Florence Nightingale" then wink
Left myself open for comments and whatever you can come up with lol
Well hello everyone, I am Paul76 not because I am 76....... Just coz that was the year I was born, Just to clear that up! biggrin
I am 5'10
Short Brown hair
Blue eyes
Stocky/ medium build
Work in London, Live in Essex
etc
etc
etc
It's a little play on words , and quite how you move from a little joke on names to a lack of self esteem or a surfeit of inner feminine empowerment seems quite remarkable to me.
Or is that just *your* little joke?
Paul76, I would actually guess 76 is the year of your birth first rather than your age anyway (snap!).
Makes me laugh when people put their age on their nickname (not just here, on other sites too) and of course come their birthday, it changes and they usually can't do a lot about changing their nick... lol
Of course if they want to keep it as "the age they were when they joined the site" then that's fine. Just don't try and pretend it's still your age except for a laugh with the people who know you in later years.
Think I may have to become "The Purple-Headed Babe Magnet", it was a long running joke back in those far off heady days of Leeds Poly. in the late '80s.......
Rick wink
A little more thought really is required by some newbies when they are registering their nic in here. I still remember when "Mature Wanker" expressed a desire to come to a munch, but strangely disappeared from here when it was pointed out to him that members are usually expected to wear a badge with their nic at munches!
Someone has already pointed out how lacking in foresight it is to include your current age in your nic, and there have also been some who have included a reference to being new in their nic - step forward the member formerly known as "Shy Newbie" lol .
Mike.
I can't quite remember why I chose AWOL, I think I was looking for something memorable or summat like that ... not very exciting but I like it now... biggrin
when i chose the name i didn't know people wouldnt know what the heck "ocky" meant.
the sweeties thing is cos we both love to eat candy and, wait for it, we're both sweet. awwww..
I felt I gave it some creativity. (ocky didn't know what I chose and doesn't like being an ockysweetie. oh well.)

Erm, well are you going to tell us? dunno I'm still none the wiser, the word doesn't appear in any online dictionary I can find. I'm assuming it's not the line which darts players have to stand behind, that's spelt "oche".
Mike.
I tried to go back and stick an explaination in, but it didn't work.. or maybe it did and isn't showing and I'm repeating myself now....
My friend came to visit us in March (from New York) after stopping off in London to stay with some family she has there. When she got here she told us she has a cousin about our age, born and raised in London, who referred to Oxford as "ocky." So a week later when we joined SH I figured "ocky" was a nickname other people used for Oxford as well, and would be clear to people where we're from. But I was wrong, the girl is a nutter and now we're stuck with a confusing nickname.
but at least it's not "hornyobnoxiousamericans"
we're not obnoxious so I wouldn't have used that anyway.

Thanks Ockysweeties, well...I lived in the Oxford area myself for about three years, way back in the past, and that's the first time I have heard the city referred to as "ocky" rotflmao The most amusing name for a person from Oxford I've heard until now was when a German friend referred to me as an "Oxenfurter" (seems to be the German for someone from Oxford).
Thanks,
Mike.
