Not very discreet walking into a pub in uniform, is it? You just attract attention to your self and with the current security situation it's not a good idea.
I have done in the past but on rare occasions and normally if I knew the pub, ie my local. It also depends whether you are in a garrison town or just have one barracks nearby where you stand out more. The Military tend to frown on anyone embarrassing themselves or attracting undue attention whilst in uniform.
Brings the Forces into disrepute, dontcha know!

unless the soldier is in a pub on the barracks or answering an official duty in the pub otherwise a british soldiers' uniform is property of her royal highness and must be treated with respect at all times..but i still dont understand why he has to wear it on a meet!
Gotta trust those alarm bells!
They never fail .

And are their pants on fire?
possibly....
wonder if they have curly hair?? confused
Cant understand why he had to have the uniform on? Unless it was some kind of kinky aspect to the meet up? lol
I do know however, like others have said, that it is always a little frowned upon going about in uniform, even these days, as others have mentioned, it draws unnecessary attention to you and that is something that isn't always the best idea while serving in the forces!
Could he not have brought some civvy rig in his bag and changed? confused

I have recently had a bit of a run in with a guy who we were considering meeting.
The longer I spoke to him the more alarm bells were ringing and this afternoon his reaction to me finally telling him, in words he could understand !! ,has confirmed that I was right to be nervous !! rolleyes
Anyway, one of the things that got me taking steps back was when he decided that it was best to meet at our house rather than at a pub !!
The reason he gave was that he was a soldier and that he would be in uniform and therefore couldn`t meet in a pub !!
Now my reaction is that this is complete bullshit !! But, am I right ??
I know I was right to call off meeting but is it true that soldiers should not go into pubs in uniform ?

At least he will know why you called off the meeting, well if he reads the forums he will.
hmmmmm sounds like a bit of a jackanory to me....I am always wary of guys who profess to be soldiers.....cammo gear is so easy to pick up theses days....they need to show me more credentials :giggle:
listen to me go on....you would think I ACTUALLY met people from this site :giggle:
Perhaps he isn't a real soldier and doesn't want to be out and about where real soldiers are dunno
All sounds a bit 'Stone Cold' (kids book, by Robert Swindells - good read but a tad sinister) to me....
I know you are not allowed to serve alcohol to a police officer in uniform!!
This is it, Alarm bells and Psycho-Radar(tm) are ALWAYS worth trusting.
From what you've said so far I'd also back right off and add them to the "Ignore" list

Ask him where he keeps his "MOD FORM 90".
Its his ID card and in uniform it is kept in his "top lefthand breast pocket"
Well it was when I was in but over time things change. (including my memory)

any present given to a police on duty has to be recorded...glass of water, cup of tea etc etc.

Dave's ID is on a lanyard around his neck when he is at work and when we go away anywhere just in case of any type of emergency, as for wearing uniform in public never known him want to unless he really has to, not the most comfortable of outfit, but my god he looks sexy as f**k in it biggrin :D

hi flower.
as a now ex-soldier i can state without question that the wearing of uniform outside the barracks is a big no-no unless on official business. when i was in, if we wanted to pop down the bank at lunch time we had to change out of uniform. As for going in pubs, no way was that allowed in uniform. mind we had the IRA threat at the time, but still not the case. last time wearing of uniform was mandatory for traveling soldiers was during conscription time.
so in all. what a pile of porkies biggrin

Not really, just generally going off camp in uniform especially to socialise was not allowed.

But Flowers original question was
" but is it true that soldiers should not go into pubs in uniform ?"
and you said
"As for going in pubs, no way was that allowed in uniform."
So surely that means that the guy Flower was arranging to meet wasnt lying about not bin allowed on Licensed Premises in uniform. Im not disputing the fact that he was in uniform when he shouldnt have just saying that Flower has the answer to his question and wasnt lied to......
I think!
Im getting really confussed now
I don't understand why he would feel the need to be in uniform at all?
dunno

True.
If that's the case though there's no issue with him chucking a civvie jacket on over his shirt or throwing a t-shirt on.
Sorry, in a less charitable mood today, it's either bullshit or he was posting from a dairy farm.
(p.s. - Medic-1, did you ever hear Run, Army Mothers are Coming?)

Guilty until proven innocent eh. Oh sorry thats another thread lol
normally no, but tonight I'm just in one of those moods.
hehehehe, maybe he thinks the uniform would help?
Has no one yet twigged that the guy was in a Girl Guides uniform- there's no way he'd have survived the pub. rolleyes
