as a young perv, i always expected the clubs and communities of the fetish and swinging world to be full of freaks, weirdos and cartoon villains, all shagging away like billy-o... yet i've discovered as time goes by, that if anything, you find more 'normal', well adjusted people in the seedy underworld of sex & spanking than you do in vanilla life.
take this place - while i'm sure there's the occasional offensive perv turns up, the ratio of troll posts to decent posts seems significantly down on other (non-sex) forums i read... no flaming, everyone seems to behave with respect for everyone else. which is nice.
so where are they all, the sexual predators & deviants we've all be warned about? do they put on a friendly, respectful face to the outside world, pouncing as soon as our backs are turned? or are they actually by and large a creation of the powers that be, trying to keep the floodgates shut against the inevitable tide of sexual liberation?

A serious reply. Ahem (cleares throat).
I agree. I think that swingers are, by and large, more well-adjusted than non-swingers. (Yes, I know that such sweeping statements are risky). We are, by and large, "liberated".
I think the pervs are the people who repress and hide from their desires, which then are mosre likely to explode in dangerous, non-consensual, activities.
We accept and channel our desires and activities, and along the way meet other people who are, generally, more at peace with themselves than the "pervs".
PS Can anyone think of a less perjorative term other than swinger. Taking a leaf from the Americans who started to refer to "people of colour" (!!!!???) maybe we should be "people of momentum".

Good post , from my time on this site i have been impressed by the kindness loyalty and friendship evryone shows to one another , the raincoat brigade proberly find that dificult to deal with , there is more respect shown on SH than many other forums i have visited.

I would use the word 'pervert' as a way to describe someone who did or fantasised about something which is illegal and/or wrong eg , abuse etc, not for consenting adults who agree to do any particular sexual act. Although I would say it in a jokey sense to someone who was perhaps talking sexy to me :twisted:

I find it so sad when ignorant people still call gay folk perverts, and the assumption that they or their children are not safe with a gay person is utterly unbelieveable!
I have had one experience, only mild but it does show the state of prejudice that still exists. I confided in a friend that I now considered myself to be bi. Her boyfriend suddenly changed a little towards me, as though maybe I was going to suddenly steal her from him! These assumptions that if you are anything but straight, you must want to steal other peoples partners and have sex with everyone are obviously bloody ridiculous!
