Ok so i'm looking for some help here.
Since moving to the middle of nowhere i've been promising myself a Sat Nav and as tomorrow is a miserable day in my calender each year i've decided that tomorrow come hell or high water i'm going to get myself one.
Question is - which one. Is there a particular make and or model that ppl would recommend, as tbh i'm sitting here a little confuddled with all that i'm reading online about them. (How can ya tell i'm a bit blonde when it comes to technology rolleyes )
Look forward to reading any replies
I've bought 3 times over the same model (had it nicked off me twice mad :x :x :x )
the cheapest tomtom model available at tesco's... at around 100 pounds
tomtom one europe (there is also a cheaper version that only carries uk maps).
it hasn't failed me once yet.

got to agree tom tom are the best and most are up gradeable , and most have police camera's on them
I swear by them as I go all over the uk as a courier and they have never failed me yet wink
you can put allsorts of info on such as garages hospitals etc etc etc but !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
as of yet  NO SWINGING CLUBS
got to write to tom tom about that one
steve
I have tomtom one bought when it first came out for £350 well worth it xxxx cheaper now as everything comes down in price xxx
I use a tom tom......it's pretty good most of the time but on occasions you need to use a little but of common sense rather than just following blindly.
Happy travelling smile
tomtom have 1 swing club on it so far as i can see but not 1 i have ever heard of and its midlands way perhaps i am wrong lol and they are only free upgradeable for a year then you have to pay
Mine cost less than £50 and works brilliantly and with a little minor tweaking runs any of the software that they use, even TomTom- all free and on a rather good site.
I can't tell you which one it is as i'm not sure how legal the hacking of it is innocent, but feel free to pm me for the links to it all
In all honesty there're all pretty much the same. If you stick to TomTom, Garmin, or Navman you shouldn't go wrong.
TomTom claim to have the most frequent updates, while Garmin claim to have the most accurate. However if like most people I know, you probably use the same Road Map Atlas you've had for the past 20 years, and guess what you still manage to get to your destination, then it really doesn't matter whether one updates every week or the other every month.
There are only two things you need to consider, firstly price/features. For me the ability to get from A to B is important, most of the other extra you'll probably never use. And the other consideration is small/wide screen, but this is purely a question of choice since the software works in exactly the same way.
biggrin

I travel a lot with my job and whilst a map is useful as a long distance quide, or to give a local picture, I have found that it's difficult if not dangerous to pull over in city centres. I mainly use my sat nav to get in and out of city centres quickly. I personally use a garmin nuvi 200 £98 quid in Tesco, wide screen too. Found it to be accurate, but dont follow them blindly, think nd override if necesary. Have one client who doesn't know the post codes of their sites so maps and sat nav are useless and I often have to pull over, wind down the window, and ask. Makes the technologie useless doesn't it. biggrin

Thank you all for your replies, i am now the proud owner of a TomTom - and now i'm off to work out how to fly it biggrin
I have a Tom Tom too... with Sexy Sylvia the Slut voice!
I really wouldn't be without it. Although I have quite a good sense of direction and generally once I've been somewhere I can get back there again. Although I have visited Swinton on the way to Manchester a ridiculous amount of times as Sylvia has told me to be in the left lane and she's wrong. I've managed to avoid it the last twice though... and I chuckle to myself that I've outsmarted her! lol
Sad but true! :silly:
I beat her home every time too... I'm sure that's not big and clever but I can't seem to help myself! redface
I should perhaps update her though... cause there are now traffic lights in the middle of one town I visit and not several roundabouts like there used to be which muddles me up every time! rolleyes

You really need to get out more... biggrin
I have satnav on my phone. Great until you go off course when you don't have a signal (i.e. Wales). Then it becomes a paperweight.
Since working this out and getting lost-ish, I've since installed TomTom and it rocks. Accurate, details, simple, finger friendly buttons - great.
That said - keep an eye out on new stuff, it all seems to be becoming rather cool. Detailed street views, sign posts, some very groovy technology coming out. It'll all be money though, so go with the cheapest TomTom unit and you'll be laughing.

You cant go wrong with a Navigo from ebuyer at £45
ps. read the reviews and you'll soon have it running, turbodog, navman, tomtom, igo8, miomap, as well as windows and media players etc

i rather like magical mystery tours myself well at least thats my excuse when mr b asks why are we lost yet again
if your using a motorbike id recommend tomtom rider v2.
It is very easy to use and mounts perfectly on most voice is clear and the screen large enough to use with you bike glove on.
Also if you have a bluetooth enabled crash helmet you can use the phone feature but only recieve you can talk to the unit without touching it.
I did a test on using the emergency feature to get help if involved in a single vehicle crash and the bike was tracked down quickly.
Important if you are alone and have a save your fumbling for a mobile phone.
Speak directly dials 999.
