So, so many. Off the top of my head:
Goodfellas: De Niro's finest role. Hundred mile an hour narration from Ray Liotta. The sheer evil of Joe Pesci. "To be born Italian and male is to have won first prize in the lottery of life," goes the saying. To be born Italian American and male must be like winning the double rollover.
The Shawshank Redemption: The film that, when I was working in a job I hated, showed me the way with the line "Get busy living or get busy dying". Also, the only ending that reduces me to tears every time.
Back To The Future: Never underestimate the effect a time-travelling DeLorean can have on a seven year old lad. Absolutely enchanting.
Some Like It Hot: Well, nobody's perfect.
Last Orders: Adaptation of Graham Greene's novel. An understated gem, it brings together a Who's Who of British acting and gives the truest representation of one of life's pleasures - having a pint with your mates.
The nearly list:
24 Hour Party People: "This is Manchester. We do things differently here"
La Dolce Vita: And my parents wonder why I want to be a journalist.
A Christmas Story: Relatively unknown, but fantastic portrayal of childhood.
The Godfather: Obviously.
Bullitt: Steve McQueen - the epitome of Cool.
Pulp Fiction: Plot construction taken to dangerous new place.
The Usual Suspects: Ditto.
Get Carter: If only to see Alf Roberts being chucked off a skyscraper.
The Italian Job: A Britpop film made 30 years before Britpop was conceived.

I found this thread while browsing for other things, but wanted to add to it :-) Most of what I would consider my top 5 have been mentioned, but some which have not are ;
- Memento (touched on in another thread, but a SUPERB film, and much better than you think it will be after reading what it's about and the style).
- Local Hero. Mentioned elsewhere, but exceptional
- Gregory's Girl. Similair vein, but total nostalgia to anyone growing up in Scotland around that time.
- Amores Perros.
- Sen to Chihiro no kamikakushi (aka Spirited Away).
- Meet Joe Black. Not sure why I liked this especially (though Claire Forlani might have something to do with it!) but really enjoyed the film. Also has His Bradness for the ladies :-)
