Remember that lesson in Careers (now PHSE) where the teacher would combine all your talents, good points and 'best' subjects and then come up with what you would do for the rest of your life?
My boy just had his - seems it's still a 'good' way to work it out (not!)
I think mine was hairdresser or carer. What was yours - can ya remember?

Can't remember all of the options, but one was Passenger Transport Planning, working out where bus routes should be, that sort of thing. They said to use my skill with numbers.
I'm still good with digits!!!!

Well at least here you had some career guidance! In my country it is customary for the children to do what their parents are doing, so lawyer breeds lawyer, doctor breeds doctor and brickie breeds brickie. Not much opportunity to cross over for a lot of people. And even less chance for an internship!
I was told I'd make a god vet - wish I'd listened and stuck in - just paid a vet bill for the horses grrrr!
Was also told my ability to adapt to situations and good manners were ideal as a receptionist.
To be honest still unsure what career would be ideal for me and after trying various types of jobs I'm looking for a change in direction.
At school, it was suggested to me, to build a career within the music industry, orchestral (I had an alto sax growing out of the tips of my fingers.)
I always kept music as an elective while in college (studied Broadcasting, Radio and Television) but sadly, blew most of my third year grant on partying.

I was supposed to be a meterologist... ho hum!
Stephen Fry filled out his form for the schools career officer, and wrote in the 'what job would you most like to do' box: School Careers Officer
He later found out that the careers officer had written in the margin next to this 'comedian eh?', and takes great pleasure in the fact that he is probably the only person eve to take the careers officer's advice.
