Best concert for me was Bowie at Town and Country Club in Leeds. I just love the smaller venues when you are closer the stage.
Followed closely by Download 2004, just so many great bands in one place.
Also Marilyn Manson at NEC, absolutely brilliant
Best tribute band as got to be Off The Wall, a Pink Floyd cover band who played in my home town and were terrific. If you closed your eyes you could hear Floyd playing, but you missed the light show. Tough choice, but I watched lol

On the smaller venues theme, some of the best gigs I've been to were at the old Marquee when it was in Wardour St. It was a tiny place but bloody brilliant.
Pallas were the absolute business there one Christmas in the mid 80's.
Also Pendragon were bloody good.
Dumpy's Rusty Nuts were regulars at the Marquee for a while and they always put on a good show & the crowd were mad.
But my best ever concert was my first......Quo at Hammersmith when I was 14 in 1979. My ears buzzed for days and my neck ached for weeks!!!!
Worst concert was Counting Crows at the Albert Hall!!!!
The wife wanted to go but even she was pissed off by the crowd, the venue, the band, everything.
What a bore!!!!
Nick Cave and the Bad Seeds in Manchester about three years ago!
Who??? I hear you say!

Hiya Slarty
Didn't see them but have been to a couple of shows at the Sheffield Octogon and they can be pretty good! Saw Jim Diamond accompanied by Snake Davis and it was a fantastic evening. We also saw Geno Washington at the same place... superb!
biggrin
I cant believe that i forgot RHCP in Hyde Park  June 2004
OH MY GOD!!
Fan-bloody-tastic!!! Plus we were so close to the front we could their guitar strings!
Anthony :inlove: :inlove: :inlove:
I was at Spike Island to see the Stone Roses, i think it was May 1989, it was a beautiful day too. It was an all day affair. there must have been half a dozen warm up groups, all afternoon and early evening.
And, as promised, just after sunset, that humming base line from 'I wanna be adored' came wafting through the air, it felt like that base line was vibrating in my head for 5 minutes before those wonderful opening few bars on the guitar hit me.
Eat your heart out Oasis, you will never be as good.
I would love to hear from anyone else that was there that night.
Apart from several bands at Glasto, my fav was Prince in 1991 @ Wembly Stadium. Simply fantastic!!
Been to plenty of good gigs and a few not so good ones, here's the highlights that I can remember:
Ned's Atomic Dustbin + Miles Hunt (frontman from The Wonderstuff) + various others in Dudley Castle in 2000. A gig in a ruined castle on top of a hill, surrounded by a zoo and fairground. How cool is that?
Ned's Atomic Dustbin reunion gig @ JB's in Dudley 2000
Wonderstuff reunion gigs @ JB's and in London (can't remember where, Hammersmith I think). 2000
Foo Fighters first UK gig in the small tent @ Reading Festival 1995 (also saw Green Day, Hole, Smashing Pumpkins, White Zombie, and Neil Young with most of Pearl Jam)
Off The Tracks Festival Sept 2003 - particularly Le Cod Afrique, the Ozric Tentacles (for the second time), and a bunch of insane Border Morris dancers.
Carter USM @ Aston Villa Leisure Centre 1993

They were/are amazing best live act EVER!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Sham69 when they played at a small venue in Worthing back in the mid 90's.
They tried to do some of their newer songs and were blatently ignored, then it was straight into Hersham Boys, Borstal Breakout, and If The Kids Were United. The last of those three was alright as long as you didn't look at Jimmy Percy, he looks like an old Mick Jagger these days. I think JP has led some wild kinda life!
The mosh pit was on fire that night, 200 Punx n Skinz kicking the crap out of each other.
For lots of different reasons, these 6 stand out,,,
Bowie, 1978,
U2, joshua tree tour,
Smiths, free trade hall Mcr,
Stone Roses, Blackpool.
Muse, T in the park last year,
British Sea Power, Mcr Acadamy , this year,
Chemical Brothers, Glastonbury
but i have many more to numerous to mention
Best ever would have to be Radiohead, Nottingham Arena November 29 2003, I was having a lot of stress at the time, lots of family/work issues going on and as Radiohead are my life I looked forward to this gig since buying the tickets 6 months before. Long story short my favourite song of all time is "Street Spirit" and they play this song as an encore in maybe 2 of 5 gigs, and I prayed for it all night. After an amazing gig, mixing new and old material, along with some of my favourite tracks too, I was raptuous, and when, 2 songs before the end, Thom Yorke picked up his guitar and without words began playing the opening arpeggio to Street Spirit, I was completely lost. I stood in the centre of 50,000 people, tears streaming down my face for three whole minutes as I sung along to something that I held so dear, something that had helped me through so many hard times, and every second that went by another piece of my life just faded away into the air, and finally, when the song was over and the crowd roared, I stood grinning like a lobotomized baboon having the most post-orgasmic chill of my life. I could have died there and then and have had no regrets about anything that had ever happened in my life up to that moment. When the show was over and they went off stage, I didn't say a word until me and my companion had got into a cab outside the stadium. To say that was the most incredible moment of my life is an understatement.
redface Okay so now you can see how passionate I am about music!
P.S. For a support act, it would probably have to be The Duke of Wellington pub last December, when British Sea Power were supported by The Killers, two incredible bands who I had never even heard of, but the talent contained in those two acts was more than I saw in the whole of 2004, which included gigs at Stereophonics and Tim burgess, Lifehouse and Slipknot/Slayer. To say it cost me £5 to get in, and we got to drink with the bands afterwards, aswell as gaining signatures and allsorts, it was a pretty damn good experience.
Euphoric Ranting Music Gushing Over!
Pink Floyed at a open air concert and yes they played the whole of dark side of the moon.
The day had been hot, the bear cool and the people fremdly. Floyed came on after dark. The visual effects where even then, spectacular. I'd met a girl there, we had a cuddle (grope) to the had a sticky end to the evening.
It was a heaven on earth.
I believe Floyed are on tonignts G8 concert at 8:20.
Shit, i cant believe i forgot to put radiohead ,,,erm,,,
Radiohead 2003 redface cheers loowis wink
and yes i agree with you about The Killers and British Sea Power  spot on
Lightning Seeds - not so long after 3 Lions came out, my leaver's ball at uni we all went down to the beach from Kent uni to M... Mar... what's the place name? anyway.. The organisation of the travel was a disaster, way too few coaches and they ended up booking quite a few cabs to get people there before the band came on and making a massive loss from what I hear (just glad I was on an earlier coach), but the atmosphere and the band were great and of course finishing with 3 Lions absolutely everyone was with them, hands in the air. Awesome.
Madonna Earl's Court 2001(I think, or was it 2000) was great, just wish I'd seen some of her earlier ones in the 80s/90s. Wow what a show. Seeing her on Live8 earlier again just reconfirms she's still got it and knows how to entertain. Big fan. And those guys spinning on just one hand... How!? Got the hifi and TV up high (sorry neighbours, and probably over the road too...).
Red Hot Chili Peppers 2004 biggrin
I love em. Fantastic concert. I had backstage passes and tickets for the gold area, but i'm not one to brag..... wink
another one that sticks in my memory
first ever motorhead open air gig in a field near upminster summer 75?
not for the quality of music
typical head banging stuff
but the best part had to be when the local farmer whose field had been invaded got fed up listening to it all sunday afternoon and pulled the plug, funny Lemmy didn't seem to notice at first !
the bikers "asked" him nicely to put the power back on, which he kindly agreed to

Bumping this up.. I'm reading old threads cos I'm bored....
I was there. Sorry bud, but the concert stunk.. the supports were shite.. defining moment of day was joining in with crowd, pelting one of support bands with yogurt pots (Can't remember band, but they sang some song about privatising the air?). Stone roses were only on for an hour... It was poo.
Top gigs I've been to..
1. Roger Waters Live at the Wall in Berlin 1990
2. U2 in Birmingham (Joshua Tree tour) 1987
3. Pink Floyd in Manchester 1988
4. Jesus Jones at the Manchester International 2 1990 (Only notable cos Neds Atomic Dustbin were the support and blew JJ off the stage)
5. Dream Theater in Amsterdam 2002
6. Various Monsters of Rock at Donnington.
