The real problem is that the papers report things. Back in the days of the CCCP when the papers did not report bad news the people were happy. Then the papers started reporting all the news and the people became depressed. The CCCP had not became worse, but people were told what was wrong. So lets close the papers down and live in blissful ignorance.
On the other hand lets just say Nottingham is not a bad place, I have not been shot at there.
Where is Nottingham ?

Well it shows football still rules some peoples heads, Rams Reds come on guys does it matter lol.... its one thing having civic pride but to think of towns purely in terms of football is soooooo sad. As for East Midlands (Sorry Nottingham) Airport it was after a long and expensive study of at least 5 people in the former soviet states asking about there knowledge of where the East Midlands was in relation to Nottingham Derby and Liecester with the odd reference to Robin Hood etc that it was decided to rename the Airport.. Been quite successful from all accounts, who cares where it is, its bringing more people to derby Nottingham and Liecester... It is strange though that an Airport should be named after Nottingham thats closest to Derby and is actually in Liecestershire.. Its all to do with peoples knowledge abroad and as Nottingham has the most press it was simple lol... Any publicity is good publicity in this case lol.
Thinking about this though should Birmingham Airport be called Birmingham Airport?? New thread maybe lol... Coventry and Birmingham equal distance at around 10 miles each!!
Who cares......

Hi all...
Another one if thats ok....... What are peoples thoughts on Nottingham after seeing all the bad press this last week? Are people put off meeting couples (or anyone for that matter) who has a Nottingham postcode... Do people think this is a rough town lol??
Honest thoughts please, really curious honest.

Nottingham's always been one of my favorite cities in the UK. True it has it's rough spots, but being a Londoner by birth you don't get much rougher then some parts of London that I can name. Of course the converse is tru too... there are some extremely POSH parts that if you park up in for 2 seconds to check your map for directions, you'll soon see curtains rattling as the neighborhood watch heavies do there vigilante piece.
Being a red bloddied male though Nottingham and its surrounding parts will always have a special place in my heart because of the sex-starved and over represented female side of the species - which must be a good bet for couples too looking for good pickings amongst the bi-female stock!!!
Just my halfpenny worth
Who cares how close the bloody airport is to anywhere - does it really make any difference ? They can call it Kuala Lumpur Airport, it's still where it is.
Honestly, most people moan about them being TOO close !
And what's football got to do with it either ?
You're both OT now, remember ...... ?

FWIW, I like Nottingham (lot's of pretty girls !) but like everywhere else, it has it's own problems. The reason it has such a bad rep' right now is because the Chief Constable couldn't run a piss-up in a brewery and has started crying for help - the media latched on and bingo - Nottingham is the gun capital of the world.
No it's not ! (Go meet some 'real' Eastenders if you want to see lots of guns)
I'm not from Nottingham, so no favouritism there either.
So, Mike (and Julie), no, it wouldn't put me off any more than any other town in the UK.

Well I am from Derby, and being a big Rams fan my opinion of notts is not very high really. The nightlife is great there, but it is undeniably the gun capital of the UK. I also have a big problem with East mids airport being named Nottingham east mids airport!!! IT is nowhere near Nottingham!! and they claim to name it that as Nottingham is known more internationally!! Poppycock, I say. Keep it real Nottingham does not represent the East midlands and I don't want it to with its reputation.
Sorry , but thats my opinion! Derby is Better !!

well im a big reds fan and yes i hate the rams and yes the nightlife here is better than derbys and east mids airport is nowhere near derby either (actually leicestershire) its no nearer derby city center as it is notts city center

castle donnington ti's the closest to the airport, think notts was jealous on Manchester & Birmingham having there own
as for Nottingham being safe well I have been in the area's (few years ago) where most the shots happen and try to stay clear now, but was just as bad then as it is now just not national news
Very nasty place
Has got that nasty Sherif their, he keeps trying to catch that Robin Hood chap, very dodgy.
Then theirs Prince John, another wicked character
Must be a right dangerous place, with all these baddies
Never had any trouble there, I remember someone being killed at the Goose Fair, and I thought that area was a bit dodgy. Around the Town hall at weekends, always seemed to have a few fights. It wouldn't put me of going though. No different to Leicester etc.

Correction there matey , although East mids is in leicestershire it is in fact nearer to Derby city centre, I live in South Derby and am about a 5 mins drive from East mids airport and a 10 min drive from city centre, where as leocester city centre is at least 35 mins dwon the M1 !! Typical forest fan never gets their facts straight!
sorry couldnt resist causing an argument with a rams fan (even tho the forest fan is wrong) lol
 to the rams fan
cant beat a bit of tension on the terraces and the forum

I wouldn't want to go there.
I've heard it's a bad place, they all talk funny and Brian Clough (RIP) is likely to smack you round the head.
There's millions of scroungers with 48 kids who never work.
A mate's mother's brothers milkman told me everyone there smells of cabbages and poo!
Just being stereotypical as is allowed on this site these days :P wink

I've heard similar things about liverpool and everyone wears shell suits there as well
and the problem with shell suits is ?????????lol
in caerphilly where i work, they still wear shell suits, ratners jewelry with white stlletos.
Well if thats the uniform you issue for your staff I m not suprised your short staffed!!!
i was not aware that i was short staffed - always been told i am fairly well endowed.....

That may be so but on the plus side Nottingham has some cracking good real ale pubs (I'll be happy to give anyone a tour of some of them) and some splendid micro and independent breweries, the night life is good and Robin Hood came over and kicked the Sheriff's 't that good enough reason to come to the city? Come on down!
blimey, loads of people from Notts here. I moved to Nottm 20 yrs ago, never had any trouble and get out an about a fair bit ;-) just gotta be careful just like anywhere else. Feel safer here than in my home town in Suffolk, where everyone seemed to be a facist! Cracking night life in Nottm too!

we would have no problems meeting someone from nottingham ( if we ever travveled that far ) as per usual it envolved a gun so the press went to town on it scaremongering just as they always do they seem to have this country gripped by one fear or another be it bird flue gun crime or whatever they make money out of it and seems there only too willing to dramatise things for the on the whole guliible general publick but then dont get ither of us on our high horses about the laws in this nanny state were ending up with ,just emagine how we feel we have to mention oh we live in the middle of the countryside ther is about 9 shoots located very close to us would it worry u seing pple with shotguns arround (u can sometimes se them in the fields adjasent to us and defo here them and a shoot meets outside our house to then move on elsewere ) ud not beleve how many pple suddenly disapear
