Hi Bill
I didn't mean to offend, was more my attempt at humour
Sure, all of us were newbies at one stage

Apology accepted, although I accept as well, that it could have been me too.
Trouble with words on screen,... they do not always convey the writers real intentions as regards an insult, or an attempt at humour. It is all to easy to take the wrong meaning.... and if that is what I did to yours, then I should be the one apologising to you sad :(
Met a few nice girls to talk to in the Cavern Club, but that is going back to the original Cavern, soooooooo many years ago..........................

damn newbies lol

Hey.... don't forget Cambs.. we are ALL newbies at something in our life, whatever it is.. so please go easy on any newbies. smile
I know some of them can be a bit OTT, but that is because they have not taken the time to look at the "rules of the house", as it were.. Some of them are so green that they haven't a clue what to say, how to react, how to answer... that is not a reflection on their character, more on lack of knowledge, which we, as the "older" ones shou;ld impart such knowledge, as we know, so that they become as wise as us :).
All the best,
Bill
Saxon Logan.... if you do manage to arrange one, and it corresponds with my days off, then I would travel over to the Island from Southampton smile
My apologies for the spelling in my last post..... methinks I need a new keyboard.... or something???
Didn't know Islanders had a name for us people....on the bigger island *LOL* smile
The Cornish and Devonians have their Grockles and Emmetts come to visit them :) :)
That's interesting Wallace as we call them Grockles too (as well as overners). The locals are called Caulkheads which I believe is something to do with boatbuilding.
I guess everywhere has it's own local name for "visitors", sttrage to find that the Island and devon have the same nema.
caulking is to do with shipbuilding, I beleive it is a term used to sealing the wood on the hull of wooden ships, but am open to be corrected by anyone with more knowledge on the subject.
Enjoying your Bank Holiday?? I am on nihgts :)

only a handful of people bothered to come along ...................
Yes TJ, but we did enjoy ourselves...
Bill

You're right Bill and the first drinks night was also a good laugh. My point is that there are lots of local members on these boards.
They whinge and whine about nothing going on down here and then when something is organised, do they bother to come along? Do they heck! confused
When these drinks nights were planned the people who organised them were quite disappointed with the response, although I hope not with those of us who came along  lol
Perhaps things will liven up during the warmer months, although I won't be holding my breath :?
T-J
it's all very well to say you will come, but we all know that last minute emergencies, can, and will crop up,..BUT, that doesn't mean to say you can't let someone know, or make your apologies by way of the forum the next day or so.
I can't see any disappointment being with the ones who turned up.. hopefully the good and positive comments after those drinks nights might make those that didn't come..wish they had !! And make more of an effort to attend the earliest one that they can.
Warmer months could bring a raft of new excuses, like having to take the kids to the beach, had an impromptu barbie at home.... am sure you can think of many more,
Bill

It isnt necessarily that expensive the ferry companies normally have deals going you just have to research it!
Would you think twice about puting the money into petrol for the car though??????

No, Olive, I wouldn't, but that is out of necessity. I know the ferry companies have some good deals going. Just come back from Pisa....£13 return from Bournemouth !!!! *smile,
Bill

There's cradle snatching....and there's cradle snatching..... But 2 year old ??? smile
Know you corrected it...., but did raise more than just a few eyebrows. *LOL*
Hope you were successful in your search :)
Yes, it is, no wonder they don't want a bridge or a tunnel, somebody would lose a lot of revenue, not saying who,.. but they have Red Funnels smile
I think the trip would be money well spent, especially in convivial and friendly company,
Bill
Seems like there is a chance for us "Mainlanders" then... eithe rto visit, or be visited smile
wave Now you have joined this site, Sinner, you won't have time to eat !!!
This site becomes addictive.....BE WARNED !!!!!! smile
*Wallace47 - Cynical and Sarcastic - maybe a few too many words and not enough reponse - who knows. Certainly less action then many here have wanted - but lets not go there again!!!!
No, not all meant in any way, derogatory...just going the opposite to needing marinating to make us tender.
No offence meant sad........,
Bill
T-J, notify Eday and the seller what you are doing, as in a previous post..that way you can dispute any "bad payer" mark that goes against your name. Will do no harm to sit tight until you hear from one or the other. Talking about ht eothe, changing the subject......*LOL*,
Bill
