Having heard the news no doubt it will be impossible to miss the death of Michael Jackson for the next week, this however is not a " " post i am afraid.
Who or what are we mourning?
Are we mourning the music the man created which love it or hate it, had some genius involved and will live on as a happy memory in time forever for many of us.
Or are we mourning the man who was a cowardly unconvicted who only got off because he was so rich he could buy silence, a man who thought himself to be so big he could just about do anything he wanted, a man who became a freak show and loved to fan the flames?
I am sure a few of you will have had a slight intake of breath at the last paragraph, but i find it odd that people are mourning the man more than the music, will we mourn Gary Glitter, no because he is a vile man who was convicted for his deeds because he could not buy silence.
Before you all start saying i should not be talking bad of the dead, this was solely a question to be held for debate and a plausable question i feel.
How is it that because someone had great song talent, we look past all the horror of his deeds and start jumping on the band wagon mourning him, good job Fred West had not had many top selling albums and singles across the world or he too would have been held up as a hero maybe (i know extreme example)!!
Long live the music of Michael Jackson is what i say and honestly mean, but as for the man that was Michael Jackson i personally shed no tears.

Only people really close to Jackson will know the real man.
I know I quote newspapers a lot, but a lot of this was through bad press. Yes I know the " accusations " thrown at him, and who am I to say whether they were true or not?
All I do know is that he was never found guilty of any crime, whatever we may think on that, that is a fact.
Yes he became an " odd ball " fuelled at times by the media hype surrounding him but....he seemed to me a very sad lonely person, who if believed had one shit childhood from a total wanker of a Father.
Whether that played a part in the man he bacame I do not know. All I do know is that for me I loved his music, but as a man I do not really really know enough about him to judge......do any of us?
theres a fellow that lives just down the road from you, he has never been investigated and yet when he dies folk will say how lovely he was , Jackson was investigated tried and found not guilty.. yet here we are calling him an 'unconvicted ', ive no more idea whether he was or was not than the guy down the road from you, i do know that some very serious investigations took place trying to prove that he was yet he was not convicted , on that basis we can be sure to have a better idea than the guy down the road from you.
hes dead .. he made great music, i think we can say that with confidence they are both true, it isnt big or clever to say he was this or that.. you just dont know do you? gossip mongering about the dead lol it just gets better and better.
(replace 'fellow down the road from you' with teacher scoutmaster carpenter nurse doctor or whatever you want)
Yeah but the fella down the road would not have the millions of dollars to buy silence, or the fame and blind support of 50 million fans!
Also easy to go to court as Michael Jackson and be found not guilty........... For my example of American law and its addiction to fame and personallities i use the name OJ Simpson, i suppose as he was found not guilty that must be true also???

im not going to get into an argument about this more than
the fella down the road would not of had the eyes of the world upon him either .. nor would we be talking about him right now.. i knew a , he a 3 month old baby anyone want to talk about him..? i dont think so, he will come out of jail one day anonymous , when he dies he will be left in piece and he was convicted!
enough said!
staggy
Also in follow up, the question i asked was are we mourning the man or the music, not is he,was he a kiddie fiddler???

neither
couldnt stand the music or any of his families for that matter
couldnt stand the man
dont give a flying fook that he has gone
Neither ...
I think he peaked musically with Thriller which is when he went weird ... liked some of his tunes but was never a huge fan, do think he got away with a lot as a result of his wealth/fame ... never knew him personally other than as a remote celeb so feel no reason to mourn the man either.
There's a lot of hypocrisy at the moment as there always is when these things happen.
Of course lost, but there also wont be any new music.... and i believe its the music we feel not the creator?
well now he is at peace, he was really messed up poor bloke.R.I.P

A bit of topic 777 but those who know Earthy personally would miss her a great deal as she is a wonderful person...you really shouldn't judge what and who you don't know and it's free country so we're all allowed an opinion, which is what she was giving.
Back on topic.......I personally think he should now be left in peace cos like all celebs he was given bad press, some self inflicted, some not but his family, friends and fans will miss him.

what she says...i feel absolutely nothing for this man...i didn't know him,i don't want to know him,i cannot or will not feel anything for someone who was a stranger to he a child molestor or not?...do i care, did it effect me personally either way..no it didn't,tomorrow i will get up,scratch my arse and just get on with my day and won't give him a second thought, nothing personal about the man,i'd feel the same way about any celebrity or stranger on the street!
I still don't understand how you can grieve for somebody you have never met. I think its emotional onanism and would be better directed at the 25,000 children who died from preventable causes yesterday.

distasteful how?
because i dont jump on the bandwagon that someone famous has died and it wrecks my world?
i didnt know him, i didnt particularly like his music, he means nothing to me, the only reason that there is a thread is because he was famous. what about all the people that die in the world everyday, for one reason or another, those that are murdered, terrorised, tortured, die in war, die of natural causes, die of disease, no one puts threads up about them and mourns them publicly.
Just cos someone is famous why should there be the whole 'omg he/she is dead' thing going on
ok people have mentioned he had problems and was manipulated etc in the press or whatever, there are thousands of people in this world that need help and dont get it, or dont even know themselves. I will not mourn the loss of 1 person who is mourned becuase they are famous when there is so much hardship and loss and grief in the world and its families that go unheard.
if you find me distasteful, then frankly i dont really give a shit. i find the thread distasteful to grieve one person just because they were famous.
ok maybe he gave music to a lot that like his stuff, but everyone in this world contributes to this planet in one form or another, we share this world and good or bad we make it what it is.
i have my opinion and am entitled to it as you are yours
Hey Kenty...whats your opinion on Amy Winehouse?
if she died tomorrow, would you then retract your "waste of space" comment you made about her?
Earthy.....I never said you was " distasteful ", I said I felt what you WROTE was. There is a difference.
Blimey if I got on me high horse everytime someone slagged off what I said, I would never have no time left to do anything else. wink
Chill out and have a nice weekend. x

Mr Powers me old cocker.....The reason I find Jackson jokes " distasteful " is that he does have young kids that will probably here or see all of this. It is not nice.
I also do not know the guy at all. I love his music but not the attention he brought to himself. I will not shed a tear at his passing, but cannot help feeling that his childhood had a massive bearing on his progression into adulthood, and some of his strange ways.
As for Ms Winehouse.....IF she died tommorow no I would not retract my comments, because I feel she is a waste of space. She will no doubt end up dead anyway, in my opinion.
Her music I do not give a toss about and as for the person, she seems to be fuelled by drugs and on a self destruct course to an early death.
Is that ok for you Powers, or anything else you want to know. wink

Amen to that.
This country is getting quite ridiculous at times like this. This national past-time of showing how caring we are by proclaiming never-ending grief because some famous person died, is a joke. I am bored of the whole sorry spectacle. It's like the demented, over-wrought sycophancy we witnessed with the passing of Princess Diana and more recently Jade Goody. Some of the messages I've seen on national TV today beggar belief... "I've been up all night crying... The world has lost an angel... Music will never be the same... My life ended today..." For fecks sake!
Yes he's dead. Yes it's sad for him and for his family and friends. Shame. But shit happens. So do Earthquakes, Tsunami's, Famine, Murder and Genocide, all of which are far more deserving of national wailing and chest beating.
But the rest of those whose over-ripe messages of personal loss, please get a grip. Grow up. Jackson the man was almost as contemptible as the people who now tearfully eulogise him as if he were a close dear friend or family member.
If you are a fan, by all means, be sad, but don't judge those who choose not to share in your grief monkeying and have made their feelings known. Their thoughts on the matter are just as valid as yours.
Live your life in the media, then this is what happens. He may have had a crap childhood, been misunderstood etc etc, but at some point you stand up and take responsibility and grow up.
This is episode three in the Princess Di, Jade Goody & Michael Jackson national outpouring of grief for no good reason other than we like a good wallow in self pity triology. His music, his REAL contribution to the world, will live on. That is something to celebrate. Not the passing of someone who, as a person, raised more questions than answers and who courted controversy, much of it highly unseemly, at every stage of his life.
I'm sad and shocked he died. But that's it. But I find this national wide-eyed hysteria that follows absolutely vile and that it detracts irrepairably from the solemnity and dignity of their death. It's worth remembering that death is not a preserve of the rich and famous.

First off Earthy wasn't making any jokes...
secondly...can you honestly say that Jackson's kids might have some kind of normal life now?
mourning?
