Today the sad news that the great actress Wendy Richards has died aged 65.
I think she was the longest serving member of Eastenders, and I think most of us remember her in " are you being served ".
A sad loss and such a young age too.
If Jade Goody gets her finger out we can have a national day of mourning.

Ian Beale's the longest serving member of Eastenders...bet he can't break Ken Barlows record!
Yes Mr Powers but the actor who plays Ian Beale isn't dead so isn't worthy of the attention of our forum. Im not sure about the bloke who plays Ken Barlow.
i just read about it on news on here, its sad i kinda liked her sad

That's really shite that is Bens.
Sometimes what you don't say does you more credit than what you do.
Point taken Res
" "
Quite fancied her in Are you being served. Its sad that she died of such a vile disease. RIP
And just for the record I took no offense at Bens comments. Gallows humour has always been around and always will, it helps us cope when things get grim.
awww thats a shame ..we have been watching lots of old comedies lately and she appeared in one or two..very sad
can folks remember a song by mike sarne called " come outside" biggrin :D :D
back in the mid 1960's it was wendy richards who was the girl on that song :D

I "inherited" the 7" single, still got it somewhere :D
For me she will always be the face of Eastenders, more so than Dirty Den and all the other characters who are more caricatures...
Perhaps her greatest skill was portraying downtrodden normality. Sounds mad I know.
I never really watched Eastenders or Are You Being Served. There are only so many laundrettes and crap "Have you seen my Pussy" gags I can stand before I lose the will to live. But you don't work that long if you haven't got something about you.
I can't say she was my favourite actress, but I think the talent she had, she used very well.

it was quite risque and sexy at the time with mike trying his hardest to get wendy outside for a kiss ??????????
then with her saying " i want another twist " and him saying " come outside for a bit of slap and tickle "
tame by todays standards but still very funny :D
steve
I had a copy of that - I think it was on the old red parlaphone it would be worth a few quid nowadays.

Oh dear the tast-o-meter of this site just went down a rung or two.
I think that's just about the most tasteless thing I've seen on SH.
Ben - if you decide to edit out your original post I'll happily delete this quote.

I find nothing funny about a 27 year old mother of two dying and leaving her children regardless of their place in society.
Your post is as bad as his. You should be ashamed.
getting back to topic....may I say Wendy Richards brought many of us many moments of great humour in "Are you being served" and entertained us with drama in Eastenders...and so will be sadly missed by many.

deadly serious why shouldn't i be its a fact humour is subjective just because u find it tasteless does that mean everyone has to???
we all have our own minds and i for one am not affraid to say mine for fear of being judged i do not care wat others oppinions are of me so i am not prepared to jump on what someone says just to appear as if i am a good person with only good and righteous thoughts and opinions
maybe i should of not expressed my oppinion eh maybe time to sit on my hands :gagged:

Death is a very delicate issue with most people, we cope in different ways some keep a sense of humour and others treat is seriously. We all have different coping strategies to deal with such a dilemma.
I think to express humour within a place like this when others have such different opinions, is a little inconsiderate of others, Ben maybe oversaw that when he posted that post.
