Someone asked me an interesting question today.
can a single male/female be called a swinger..?
A very good question, but yes I think they can.
Meeting others through the swinging scene for recreational sex and enjoying the social side of the lifestyle I think differentiates from someone who trawls pubs/clubs in search of one night stands.
You are either on the scene or you're not, whether couple or single.

Why not???
I guess the only difference is whether you ever get to meet anyone to have fun or not. Otherwise you would just be a hopeful.

Yes of course you can.
Also known as a swingle!! (tm DB or was it Bluexxx)
i'm guessing this question came from some one who remembers "wife swapping" which is where swinging generated from hence the question, can a single be classed as a "swapper" as he has no "partner" to swap.
This topic has been brought up before... and if im right, went on and on... with lots of dif opinions.
I can't find the link to it tho..... if anybody would care to help out....??

This is how I see it too. I think too many people confuse "wife swapping" with "swinging", obviously "wife swapping" is a part of swinging, but swinging is a life style which doesn't require you to have a partner to "swap".
rolleyes
I'm beginning to wonder.

I think possibly 'you' can but I'm beginning to doubt if I can. I have a fb with whom I swing and it's a completely different experience, mainly because of the way other couples react to you when you're part of a couple, it's safe.

Yeah you're right from the point of view of safety it probably is easier for a man than a woman, but getting to know the potential meet as much as possible beforehand is probably the only safeguard.
However it is still possible to find yourself in doubtful situations as a single man too.
sad
Most of you seem to be of the opinion that a single person can be a swinger....
So what makes a single person a swinger? There are lot of people that just go out for fun etc, but do not count themselves as swingers..
I mean if I man has sex with a man he is called gay, bisexual etc. He is not able to say I am not gay but I have sex with men?
he can say whatever he likes to anyone he likes.
and your sexuality has no bearing on whether you are able to have 'no strings sex'

So are you saying you are a swinger if you have no string sex?

when he/she swings with a couple dunno
depends how you define the word swinger, i know how i define it but that might not be the same way others do. For example i wouldn't regard two singles meeting as swinging, but some would, whatever your happy with, its only a label after all.
As for your other bit regarding gay/bi etc, thats a can of worms, i'm confused at what your asking, but that sounds more like not being honest about your true sexuality :dunno:

I am saying that anyone can call themselves a swinger. Anyone can call themselves gay/bi/straight etc.
There are people here who call themselves swingers and have never actually had sex with anyone other than their long term partner. There are no swinging police. No-one can say that you are or are not a swinger.
I am a swinger cos I say I am. You are if you say you are.
I always considered swinging to be the entitlement of married couples. Having 'forsaken all others' etc, it seems appropriate that they should have the title.
However, nowadays; it's probably easier to say that swingers are people who have many sexual partners, mainly concurently; but devoid of the commitments of love and/or responsibility for their partners.
Including love would then entitle you to be a Polyamorist.
is singles arent swingers, and im not the one thats saying thats the case, does that mean couples that play with singels arent swinging? oh dear,
personally i dont think swinging is anything more than a mind set, and if you really need to label yourself as this or that its up to the individual...

I think being a swinger means having a particular attitude towards sex and relationships. Many vanillas can't get their head around the stuff we understand and deal with routinely and without difficulty. Although it has much more relevance when you are with someone, you don't lose a swingers attitude to sex just because you happen to be single.

can a single male/female be called a swinger..?

This is the proper meaning of the word " swinger"
Slang. a. a person who indulges in promiscuous sex.
b. a person who engages in the exchanging of spouses for sexual activities.
So that means either a single or a couple can be " Swingers ". Hope that helps.
i an a swingle and me pm box is open

Thanks for that kentswingers777, that ought to clear things up. It probably comfirms what many of us already knew but it's helpful putting it in such concise terms.
PJandS, Splendid and WRATS said it all for me.
My argument would only be that if you are not a swinger purely because you are single - what are you then?
I don't class myself as a swinger but that's my choice alone. It's not up to anyone else to pigeon-hole me, thankyou. wink
