this is a question i get asked by people who i barely know. the minute i mention i was in the army and saw active service. i find it very intrusive.
what do you not like being asked?

then why say it?

it often comes up in conversation. i dont walk around in fatigues and and make it the first thing known about me. doesnt make it ok to ask a stranger a personal question,.
how can you happen to mention you were in the army and saw active service if you're talking to a stranger??!! It's not really the sort of thing that comes up in conversation with strangers.
if i remember rightly it came up in conversation round about your second post on here dont remember what the topic was but i'm pretty sure it wasnt anything titled"have you ever seen active service in the armed forces" i could be wrong though bolt
I do a lot of work for charity, but don't like to talk about it ........ smile

Well.....did you? dunno wink
I'd think celebrity TV Chefs would get asked this more.
I suppose it is a bit personal, but it also does pander to the Rambo fantasy for some and a gentle massage of the ego can be quite nice.
My Father in law was in the army, I never asked him this and I never heard anyone else either. It felt like a bit of a subject to be honest.
Its usually the territorials who drop the big 'by the way I'm in the TA', very early on in the first conversation.
I haven't killed a human. But I've nailed a few people at work. They looked like death thereafter.
So what did you use Brucie. Rifle, or up close with the bayonet?
i can honestly say,i have never killed anyone.............who didn't deserve it. wink
I hate it when the waiter in a restaurant comes up and asks "Is everything alright?".
It's always when I have my mouth full (of food smackbottom I heard you thinking!), or am in conversation with my companion and if it wasn't alright he'd darned well know about it. Leave me alone and let me eat.
I have a colleague who works four days a week. Without fail she (after her three day weekend!) greets me on a Tuesday morning with:
"Are you tired? You look tired. Are you tired?"
It kind of all blurs into one utterance as I glare at her in complete and profound annoyance. I have come to resent both the question and the inference.
One day I shall point out her smug self-righteousness... but at the mo, I can't be arsed - the inward seething is way too much fun.

How's your team doing......:kick:
*reads thread title*
*reads thread content*
*ponders on the appropriateness of a question deemed to be inappropriate by thread starter, given the alleged intrusiveness of a personal question on an impersonal interweb forum vis a vis the whole "have you ever killed anyone" thing, given that it would never have occurred to me to ask "have you ever killed anyone", not unless someone had already asked the question . . . erm . . . "have you ever killed anyone" . . . or something? confused*
*thinks "Hang on a minute? Read that back to me again!?"
*re-reads thread*
Hmmmmm . . . . :?
*thinks "It's no good Neil, there's some multi-layered, self-referential thing going on here, and it's going right over your head like an aeroplane, as per usual"*
"We're probably not on about Corporate, Telic, or Herrick", says Neil to his little self.
*wonders if it's Banner, or Granby?* :?
*strokes chin*
*has a sneaky peek at ARRSE, just to see what weapons I should be using on Modern Warfare 2, and to incidentally check the ops and what have you*
*ponders what operations we might be on about?*
*refrains from asking Brucie an out-and-out question*
*generally ponders on the concept of irony, tries to explain it to Brucie . . . *
*fails*
*thinks "You know what? Waaay too complicated for me at this time of night, this is!"*
Oh well!?
N x x x ;)
Its up to you if you want to talk about it. What would be interesting to hear though is about any 'training' you receive regarding either killing or being killed.
What's in the manual about how you respond to either before during and after. Is it all a bit stiff upper lip or is there a touchy feely thing going on?
Do tell Brucie................
I hate it when ppl ask "are you seeing a psychologist?" .. it often comes up in conversations I have with strangers ... I find it extremely intrusive!

Neil you are a god worship By the way..... Have you ever killed someone?? ;) :giggle:
i'm often asked on here have i ever "met" anyone then when i admit that yes once a long long time ago,all the other questions start "how was it?" "what did it feel like" "how did you do it" "do you think you could do it again"...dont these people realise these episodes are hard enough to forget at the best of times without having to dredge up the past bringing back the vivid dreams the hot and cold sweats the impromptu i need to go have a "special" lie down now
To answer the question in the title, no, not yet.

Do tell Brucie................

we did do a 2 hour seminar on interrogation techniques. about 5 minutes were dedicated to "dont feel bad about it"...
Maybe those 5 minutes were not enough....................

That tickled me too! lol
Nellie... luffs ya! kiss
I've ever asked anyone that question, regardless of their profession, nor would I. It's not something that would occur to me and having given it some thought, the whole topic really makes me cringe a bit. If someone were in that position then they would surely have enough integrity not to discuss it and to have the ability to deal with the question, should it be asked, with some sort of dignified response.
I think the question is bullshit
most things in life are
