Sign me up I hate Tesco too.
About 10 mebbe 15 yrs ago they persuaded my local council to give them permission for their biggest store to date.
This was slap bang next door to our local high street. They got permission by agreeing to redevelop the one way system.
Needless to say their is hardly a shop left on the high street.
I also hate tesco, but i have got some shopping in our local one, but would never do a full shop, i think they have the most unhelpful and inconsiderate staff i have ever come across and this is based on a personal experience not just a random comment....i always shop at another local supermarket even tho i have to travel a bit further to do so.....

There is only one way to stop Tescos taking over the world. It involves a certain Bond.....James Bond, yes old 007 himself. I believe in the next film he will be taking on a meglomanic beny on world domination, through resonably priced food, clothes and sundry other
i love tesco,s there jack daniels is on offer......

Some might say there is not much to choose between the "high street giants" (though WTF they're continued to be called that when most of these so-called giants are now situated on once green-field sites on the edge of town is a fucking mystery...) and that they are all as bad as each other.
I however hate Tesco. I do not shop there. I have never shopped there and NOTHING would ever make me consider shopping there...
Nothing, except perhaps if Tesco achieved it's plan of totally monopolising food shopping in the UK. Then I suppose I would have to consider it, but I still would avoid it if it was possible.
What is it about companies like Tesco that make them think that everyone in the UK would sell their principles down the river for a promise of cut-price bread or a cheap tin of beans.
Anyone else out there dislike Tesco intensely? Anyone else hate them like I do? Is there a local shopping horror story or travesty of planning justice perpetrated by Tesco in your area?

I have no axe to grind with Tescos as they do what all the others try to do, get us to spend money and make vast profits!
Is it the fault of Tescos or the greedy councils who let them open stores in prime areas, for " backhanders "? There is talk of a massive Tescos opening up in Bexleyheath, but the council could not find the land for an ice rink which we have all been shouting for for years, but have found land for yet another mega store. Are Asdas not the same for selling everything from tooth picks to designer like clothes? Supermarkets of today want us to buy everything from them and not to shop anywhere else, I cannot see a problem with that as luckily in this country we still have " freedom of choice ". Or would we all like to have no supermarkets and shop like we used to in our local shop paying twice the price as we do now?
I dont think people sell their principles, they go where they feel they can get the best deal and save the most money...whats wrong with that?
I for one think that corruption in local town halls is rife.
Where we used to live in UK (not a massive town by any means), there are 3 Tesco's! Two of them are on the outskirts of the town on major roundabouts in prime locations and the third is slap bang in the middle of the town off the market square. There is also a large Sainsbury's and more recently, Lidl tried to utulise part of a country farmer's store which is struggling to survive since most of the land has now been given over to housing. The local planers have refused permission (maybe because part of the "backhander" was to keep other competition out dunno).
The original High Street is like a ghost town; traditional shops are being bled to death by extortionate business rates and more are closing by the week.
That is not just in that small Essex market town, but up and down the country it is the same.
The question I would like to ask is; where is all this money raised in tax actually going to?

To line the pockets of the corrupt politicians and local councils! Look at Tony now...more houses than most and rising by the week....Oh to be a socialist Tony Blair eh? lol What a wonderful land we live in. Democracy = corruption.

Doesn't really matter as you pay your taxes to the sheep burners now does it ;-)
omg im not alone
i really fecking hate tescos, this will turn into a long ramble so appologies now....
i used to work there years ago, i think every one should be made to on leaving school, why?? cuse i hated it so much it made me have the balls to jack it in and put myself through uni and get the degree and job that i now have and love.
i worked 3 days a week doing 9 hour shifts, if i took one day off ill it would have ment a bann on doing over time for 12 weeks, i never took a day off.
when my granddad died who lived over 400 miles away i traveled up to the funeral on my day off, i wanted the next day off unpaid so i could stay over and was told i could but never to return if i did.
their back stores are soooooo disgusting you have to dodge the rats, the shelves for stacking the back stock are beyond dangerous.
they treat staff with such contempt its no wonder then staff are fed up and in turn show this, (although i never did) during the really really hot summer they dont even allow staff stuck on tills to have a bottle of water with them.
they moniter your scan rate, if you dont push the goods through fast enough you get a bollocking.
they have a huge store where i live and have been campainging for a bigger one saying our town need more choice  then when another supermarket tried to open up tescos got a petition against them ???
they stoped a massive percentage of their stock so customers would complain and want it in store, their reply.... write to the council backing us to build a biger store NO MR TESCOS stop having 20 facings and 5 shelves full of only one brand of toilet cleaner and you woudnt need a bigger store.,
god i hate tescos.

It matters a lot Steve! There are double taxation rules with France; that means you only pay tax in one Country, not both and you can choose which Country you pay tax in
well..i love tesco's...its local...in the edge of a houseing estate mine..so easily walkable...it sells basically 95% of what I need to purchase from breakfast cereal to flat screen tellys. The fuel sold there is cheapest around... I am happy to spend my money with Mr Tesco..thankyou
D
I don't think I love 'em or hate 'em. I use them that's all - usually when it suits me.
The only thing I won't do is buy books or CDs from the big stores. They cream off the volume and offer no variety thus driving the more discerning retailers, who do offer choice out of business.
.
i agree with dean
i love tesco
theres 3 locally
round here its the best value store, far cheaper than sainsburys, better products than asda
there r cheaper stores such as sommerfield locally but i dont find them any good
i love the fact that i can drive 5 miles and buy virtally everything in one go
i hate having to go from store to store otherwise for food, toiletries, clothes etc
i only wish they had a pharmacy too but i know some do so im hoping we will get one too soon
i know several people who work at the store closest to me and they all say its a good place to work with better pay than i get and good working conditions to
We like tesco and asda and find them to be the best value for money out of the "BIG" shops.
Asda seems to be more calue for your day to day shopping but we find Tesco has some of the better "limited" offers and so will shop there first and go to Asda for what is missing from our list lol
Love tesco's, open 24 hrs and sell everything I need and great value to.

ASDA !!!!!!!!! ffs they're owned by walmart .......the great satan
Tesco is a great shop. They reckon that out of every 7 retail pounds spent in the uk 1 pound is spent at Tesco. My only gripe is the price of the bloody petrol its no cheaper than the regular garages. Give some of the profit back please Tesco.
Hmmm.
Bread is cheaper at the local small shop than at tesco. Petrol/diesel is cheaper at the shell garage a mile away from tescon (2p/litre) (tescon buy-in diesel at 2p/litre less than petrol.....work it out). Ham is better, although more expensive at budgen. Vegetable oil is cheaper at lidl (3p/litre).
In fact, even sainsbury has cheaper prices on many products than tesco(n).
On the other hand, the local tesco has a check-out girl with the face of an angel. On another hand (I've got three) the "suits" at tescon are as thick as a dog turd. And what's with the bloody great "scrum" their "suits" have in the store where they discuss everything except why they block the place up with idiots discussing how to improve things ?
Now im not one to gripe, but our Tesco, the biggest of all them around is a nightmare.
Being a bloke im drawn into the big telly's like a moth to a flame at night. What ever posesses you to this I do not know...but who want's to purchase a TV at 3 in the morning the size of a billboard on Picadilly Circus. Why is it that the first thing you see when you walk through the door is beer on special offer, and the last of the vast isle's is beer again.
Meanwhile you have what we call "No go zone's" the isle's that are set up for foods with lables you can not read, pictures that you only see in a first edition of a Lonely Planet guide to the edge of the civilisation.
So all in all, book your two weeks holiday to stay at a local Tesco, apply the sun cream from isle 3128 after avaoiding the wet spill in lane 1277, sit back on a Tesco value deck chair in front of one of your 46 flat screen TVs and crack open a carling, only for 24.
Remember your club card points and "Every little Helps"

Will they sell one of those then?
Why would I be interested in a book on the history of words? Oh and btw....I do not shop in Tesco's!
I could not agree more... I totally hate Tesco. My nearest large supermarket is Tesco, which makes me hate it even more than I used to when I had the choice of virtually every other large supermarket as well.
Personally I mostly do my shopping in Netto, Lidl and Aldi...... They actually DO offer value for money!!!!
I never have to wait very long in a queue, I can find what I want easily and I don't have to pay a lot of extra money for "service" that's non-existent!
O M G!!!!!! I finally realise I am middle-aged!!!!!
I must be to have spent this much time complaining lol
Thanks for startiung this rant

Crack is actually correct, if less romantic. Craic was just an invention to sound more Irish.
"An older, related, more widespread, sense of crack is "joke", as in crack a joke or wise-crack. Another sense of crack, found in Scottish English, is "news, gossip", which influences the common Irish expression "What's the crack?" or "How's the crack?", meaning "how are you?", "how have you been?", or "have you any news?"
The context involving 'news' and 'gossip' originated in English and Scots and came to Ireland through Ulster dialects of English and/or Scots, where the sense of 'fun' developed. Early Irish citations from the Irish Independent relate to rural Ulster: from 1950, There was much good "crack"... in the edition of "Country Magazine" which covered Northern Ireland; or from 1955, the Duke pulled the bolt on the door of the piggery, and let Coogan's old sow out...The Duke had been sitting on top of Kelly's gate watching the crack. It can frequently be found in the work of twentieth century Ulster writers such as Brian Friel (1980): You never saw such crack in your life, boys and Jennifer Johnston (1977): I'm sorry if I muscled in on Saturday. Did I spoil your crack?
Like many other words over the centuries, 'crack' was borrowed into the Irish language with a Gaelicized spelling ('craic'). "

Well, well, well...reinforcements lol
What on Earth has prompted your rounding on me..? Bored? Have I offended you at some time in the past? Or is it the bully in you, coming out?
By the way, your explanation on the word craic / crack is utter drivel and I think a book on etymology might be in order for a certain musketeer too rolleyes
Now if it is all the same to you, please get off my back before I have to ask a MOD to take a little look at the way in which you are deliberately trying to provoke YET ANOTHER forum member into making a less than appropriate response.
I didn't round on you, merely pointed out that as someone who apparently doesn't use the place to hate it so seems a tad irrational. As to the spelling/meaning of Craic/Crack, they aren't my own words, I filched them from a better sauce (stet).
