If your old PC has a ethernet port then get a crossover cable and network both PCs, then transfer files. Networking arghh I would be up till about 6am trying to do it.
If you get someone in to do transfer dont pay more than £30.

Er.. thought I'd better point out that networking one PC that's infected up to any other PC is a bad idea. I think removing the disk out of the problem PC and installing it in the new one is one of the best and quickest ways (a 5minute job if your PC case/drive mounting screws are easy to get at, and you know how to set the drive to master/slave as appropriate).
Using the infected PC's system to do anything involving the copying (eg. over a network, via a disk, even a USB flash memory-stick or something) always runs the risk that the infected PC can infect files on the disk or copy extra hidden stuff on there to infect other PCs with (although that's not such a big route to infection nowadays). Taking the disk out means as long as the PC's system you put it in doesn't read anything from the new disk except the pictures, you're safe. Also - it can read the data fastest of all 'cos it's coming direct from the drive.
Ok, sorry to bore you all with the techy bits... Hope it's helpful to anyone interested.
As long as you're careful with the infected computer's drive in your safe, working,. machine, and don't run any software or open any files that could have viruses in from the infected drive, you're ok. Virus-scan it first. Any shortcuts to programs should be temporarily broken anyway (usually a pain but in this respect rather helpful) as the drive will be a different letter (not "C:"), I presume.
Get someone a bit knowledgeable about the insides of a PC (dont need to be an expert, but anyone who's built their own PC before or added an extra drive a couple of times or something should be plenty capable enough) to help with a bribe of some sort.
Oh btw everyone bigging-up Firefox - yes, compared to IE it's brilliant ("doozies"??? from another thread I was just reading), and it's the most compatible non-IE browser out there but it's too lacking in customisation for me (without getting really techy and writing plugins/skins). I prefer - faster (once it's started), way more customisable off-the-shelf (to almost stupid degrees - I love it), and also runs in Windows/Mac/Linux/BeOS/on your PDA/smartphone/almost anywhere else. Has a decent " feed reader" too (for news eg BBC, Slashdot, blogs etc). It remembers the pages you had open as well and can start up exactly as you left it without losing anything. But you might find more sites not working as well than you would in Firefox, so I have both for all situations.

If you have XP then your CD-Rom will work in safe mode. Might be as easy if you had a USB stick. XP on my OLD pc lol Its a pentium one with either win95 or win98 on it, it makes my Spectrums look fast

Probably more stable, too (the Spectrums) - yes, even with a wobbly RAM pack! There is a TCP/IP stack around for them that is workable I believe. Win95/98's networking is unbelievably flaky, even with stable device drivers and all the patches. They gave up for Win2k and nicked it from another O/S (allegedly... or was it proven in court?)
PS - yes, 2 posts together, but the 1st one was big enough already thankyou very much! Different comment anyway

Oh dear.. Don't get me started on computer-based puns.... smile
I won't have a bit of it (soz..)
But you can come caress my joy-stick anytime (ok, now it's just getting pathetic). Just don't squeeze the (mouse)ball too tightly.
We could have a load of fun, it would be a great gig, is meg coming too? I'm a little into bondage but does meg-hurtz?
(mm... I'm losing it).
I have a 3 stage plan to share that will not only rid people of currrent spyware, virus's and trojans, but also almost certainly prevent any reinfection........
(1) Shut down your pc.
(2) Unplug it from the wall and throw it in the nearest refuse container.
(3) Go and buy one of the many excellent AppleMac pc's that are available at increasingly reasonable prices, I believe you can get one now for as little as £319.
The beauty of these machines is that the idiots out there in cyberland that spend all day and night devising new and ingenious ways to infect peoples computers want to do as much damage as possible to as many people as possible and so overlook the apple community.

They used the TCP/IP stack from BSD, which is perfectly acceptable and within the terms of the BSD licence. However it does render their argument about open source software being a danger to intellectual property somewhat less convincing (not that it was ever very convincing).
Erm there are over 500 viruses, trojans and worms for the MAC and if you have the Java runtime engine and few hundred thousand more.
We practice safe sex, lets practice safe computing...

I assume this is in response to my remarks about mac..... and indeed those figures may well be an accurate reflection, but you seem to be missing the point, I.E the java runtime engine allows execution of .exe,.scr and .img files....... files that are obviously intended for windows users, so if ya stick with MAC, you have 500 odd potential threats to worry about, as opposed to, oh i dunno whats a fair guess....5,000,000 on windows ??
Well i know which team i wanna bat for ............

Having administered networks using Windows, Mac, and *NIX boxes my personal preference would be for Apple Mac clients (or maybe some other flavour of UNIX if the users are comfortable with that) and Linux or *BSD servers, on grounds of usability, reliability, ease of configuration and resistance to viruses/trojans/various other nasties.
