Moan, moan, moan.
The same old faces whinging and whining about the same old things.
Being better with words and debating is not bullying.
Quoting sections of people's posts is the de facto standard of the world I'm from, i.e. Usenet. It's a formatting style done to make the answering of points easy to read. Just look at the attempts people make to do the same thing. Different colours, answering within the quotes tags, all difficult to read and get the point of. If you don't want your posts to be "dissected" then make one point per post. Until then expect me to continue to make clear and easy to read posts.
As for the total bollocks about skirting the AUP being worse than breaking it? Don't make me laugh. Or are you really expecting someone to add to the AUP "It is against the AUP to not break this AUP by staying within the AUP". rolleyes
Quit moaning and if you want to say something then do as I do, i.e. have the bollocks to say what you're thinking, keep it within the AUP and have the courage of your convictions and defend what it is you've just posted.

PARMA VIOLETS ewgh hated them but loved black jacks, fruit salads and mojos, and all were only 1/2p for 2 sweets

Mmmmm Parma Violets, loved the smell and loved the taste. In fact I think I even have a tube in my kitchen!

too pished to correct my spelling mistakes so i thought to apologise for you having to bring it to my attention

All part of the job of being an arse.
Quote by Djcouple7
My most sincere apologies

Why?
If you genuinely think I'm an arse then why apologise?
It hasn't hurt my feelings, it won't make any difference to your opinion about me.
My mention of the AUP was for your benefit, not mine. It's not that I'm going to be worried that someone I don't know and will never meet thinks I'm an arse.

This is gonna sound cruel.
May i ask one important question?.
Why are we worring about Maddie McCann..when there are loads and loads of other missing people out there.
And i know what i am about to say will cause a few raised eyebrows.
I strongly believe that some sort of charges shouldhave been brought against the parents,
if they hadn't left maddie alone she wouldnt have gone missing,
And she would have been here to enjoy christmas.
leicester is one of our own ...end of
thats why /

Ahhh, so the town they're from is part of the equation in working out how much we should miss someone.
Just so that I know for next time.
Quote by westerross

It's disgusting and unacceptable that people will resort to any level of violence, but some (and seeming, increasingly more of the populous) will. sad
As for not attending events for fear of this, I for one refuse to let others dictate either directly or indirectly what I can and cannot do with my personal time and that's in real life too, not just on forums.

I should just clarify that I did not avoid the munch I was referring to because of the threat of violence. It was just that I really did not want to be in the same room as someone I find so objectionable on here.

Your loss, their gain then. Simple as that.
The earlier point that electing not to post an opinion renders it valueless is in my view facile. A lot of people may very well want to express an opinion, which is perfectly valid, but just don't want some sort or pedantic, forensic dissection of it which then leads to an abusive confrontation. This has happened increasingly on here lately.
.

An opinion left unstated is about as useful as a chocolate teapot and may as well not exist for all the difference it will make to anything or anyone.
I've seen that accusation of "dissection" levelled before and frankly I believe it is total bollocks. Any element of a discussion, debate or opinion is fair game for commenting on. If people don't go to the trouble of caring what words they use then it's tough shit if someone picks up on it.
For a website that's supposed to be adults only there does seem to be an awful lot of cry babies here. FFS you're adults, try acting like it and stop whinging and whining like someone in the playground. "Mum, that man called me names because I posted something".
So long as what is said is within the AUP then there's nothing to complain about. If people are too sensitive to take some criticism then they really shouldn't be on the net, much less trying to join in adult debate. rolleyes

Again quoted from someones post:
Forums are a venue for conversation, debate and the swapping of ideas and knowledge. They aren't there for people to hang back and not post anything. There's no point it being there if that's what people are going to do.
A swinging site is for swingers, but yet many have said in the past they have no intention of swinging but they like the site and likeminded people on it. So if people who sit back and watch the forums but dont post shouldnt be here then should that not go for the non swingers,,,,,after all it is a swinging site lol

Perhaps I should remind you of this...
"General discussion and chit-chat. Post anything here that is NOT a Meet Up or about Dogging. Use the sections below for those."
The Cafe is NOT about swinging, which in turn means that what you said in the last paragraph above is pretty much null & void.

Personally, I think if someone is put off posting because their comment will be disagreed with then their opinion isn't worth listening to. After all if they don't think it's important enough to post then why should we think it's important enough to care about missing it?
An opinion that isn't backed up by deep-felt belief isn't worth having as far as I'm concerned.

I disagree totally with that, Peanut.

Fair enough. That's probably why I wrote it and you didn't.
I believe that people may not be put off cos they doubt the value of what they post. They may well be put off posting because they expect to be abused for voicing their opinion. People are being very effectively bullied out of posting on here by fear of unwarranted and hurtful reactions by other people.

I'm sorry but I have no sympathy. We don't go through life being wrapped in cotton wool, why should that change once they come on here?
People who I hope would think twice about voicing their sneering/hurtful/dismissive comments if they were face to face with their target.

If that was aimed at me, then I'm sorry but people who know me know that I'm not a keyboard commando. There is just as much chance of me saying what I say to their face as there is of me writing it here.
The one thing that's different is that I supply the facial expressions and body language that puts my comments into the correct context.
An opinion may be supported by heartfelt beliefs, but the person holding that opinion can be abused into holding their tongue.

That's their problem, not mine. If they don't have the courage of their convictions then they can feel free to sit in the corner with their box of tissues.

Peanut I agree with most of what you have said earlier on this thread, but I disagree with all of the above post.
Agreement or disagreement wasn't expected. I'm merely stating what I think.

Yes I believe that respect is earned.
I do not bestow automatic respect on anyone. Their actions, their behaviour towards me, their behaviour towards others and their belief system all affect both if I respect them and how much I respect them.
.

So what are you saying?? if you don't agree in their belief system they don't receive respect from you???
dunno

That's what I said.
For example anyone who believes money comes before people means that I have absolutely no respect for them whatsoever.
Or people who believe it's okay to be cruel to animals.
Or people who believe they are better than anyone else.
Do I need to go on?
That's disrespect in my book.

Your book mustn't be the Oxford English Dictionary then.
Having no respect is not the same as disrespect.

That'll make life easier - just google for 18-rated sites biggrin Saves typing in all the different (bad) spellings of porn, sex, shag etc etc :D
Mind you, sites that have a rating would be easier to filter using netnanny etc. You could filter all without a rating as well as all with specific ratings.
I agree with the concern that it could lead to full censorship - but I can't honestly see it happening. The IPS's know where the customers are and what they are looking at and would fight an exclusion clause in their licenses.

A lot of sex sites (and other sorts of adult orientated sites) are already self-rated using ICRA. In fact this very site we're on now uses ICRA ratings to help prevent children accessing it.

a still tongue can also be an observing mind !!
I have been on here almost 5 years now and people comae and go..and things change. the last year has seen the forums become more political and people more ready to cut up and at times rip into peoples posts. this does make people think twice about posting. Maybe we should put our own views and ideas forward, whilst accepting that others have differant views !!
these forums i do think are at there best when we have things like the Avatar challenge etc....but that is thread itself is over two years old now. So maybe lets all make an attempt to make these forums a little more like fun in 2009 !!

have to admit also that some things are getting a little out of hand on the forum these days, ive noticed a few good threads getting spoiled by people having a few spats.
I do understand that no everyone gets on and people do have a difference of opinion but some dont know when to just let things go,,,,this is not intended to anyone in particualar but most of us enjoy just reading along in the forums and not posting much

why do you think i dont put so many on now ??????????? and i am a newbie .......old saying a still tongue makes a wise head , more true than ever on the forum .........most go to the groups at least you know when you have posted a group who is REALLY interested in you ? and not just to give crass comments ?

A "still tongue" on a chat forum is about as much use as wearing a condom whilst having a wank. rolleyes
not really xx
a still tongue is watching waiting listening building up a rapore with GENUINE people who understand you and want to know you I personally have never had a wank with a condom on its usually with a female hand without a condom on .....end of ?
steve
A still tongue on an internet chat forum is a death knell for that forum should everyone take that tack.
Forums are a venue for conversation, debate and the swapping of ideas and knowledge. They aren't there for people to hang back and not post anything. There's no point it being there if that's what people are going to do.
People should have more confidence in their opinions and thoughts. Okay not everyone will agree, and some will take the piss or go off at a tangent. If you really believe in what you are saying then fuck 'em and say it anyway.
Saying nothing is just that, nothing. No-one can see you sitting back shaking your head in concern/exasperation/disgust/hysterics (delete as appropriate) so there's no point in doing it. This here is a text medium. So put that head shake into terms that can be seen here.

is it worth it ... you put a post on to whatever subject you seem to think fit for an open adult discussion without upsetting people , and try to be as honest as possible in your writing ...... then bang your private mail opens up with abuse ridicule scorn and nastiness .....some who will reamain nameless dont have the b........l? to put it publickly maybe thats a fear to reveal what is behind what they really are and feel, again no wonder people dont put on here anymore .....I from now on will think twice and stick to the real friends I have known and met and converse with and will continue to do so you know who you are and I applaude you ....at least you have been honest .
steve

If you have received an abusive PM then it is in the interests of yourself and of the forum in general to report the fact to either admin or to your nearest mod.

I do not bestow automatic respect on anyone. Their actions, their behaviour towards me, their behaviour towards others and their belief system all affect both if I respect them and how much I respect them.
In the converse, I don't really care how much I'm respected or not respected. I am who I am, if others choose to respect that then great, if they don't then that's good too. My own self-respect is far more important than anyone else's so it's far more important to me for me to be the person I want to be rather than the person everyone else would like me to be.
All things considered respect is pretty much an abstract notion anyway.
In 1993, Internet pioneer John Gilmore said "the net interprets censorship as damage and routes around it".
