i used to have a copy of the original tubular bells on vinyl, it was the first record released on virgin records way back in '73 and had the catalogue number v2001. when the cd was released in 1983 i bought a copy (catalogue number cdv2001) and still have it, it sounds as good today a it did then.
Viv Stanshall (bonzo dog doo dah band, who remembers them ?) was the master of ceremonies, towards the end of part one he introduces the instruments......
grand piano...............
reed and pipe organ..............
glockenspiel..................
bass guitar................
double speed guitar...................
two slightly distorted guitars.................
mandolin......................
spanish guitar and introducing acoustic guitar..........
plus.........tubular bells
those are the only words on the original tubular bells, i've never heard any of the versions that have lyrics and can't imagine why the music needs them.
a current fave singer of mine is sufjan stevens, these lyrics are from a track called "sister"
