Ian,
A very valid point and their decision as the 'service provider' and AUP, etc.
However as they initiated an informative discussion on merging Forums
http://www.swingingheaven.co.uk/swingers-forum/viewtopic/344104.html
and the threads debating the new Chat, I believe this to be a valid topic for discussion and one Admin may or may not refer in their deliberations.

IMHO there is a big difference between the site owners checking with the users for their comments before making any decisions, and the users attempting to dictate to the site owners what they want.
One question that springs to mind about your comparison.
When was the last time you read about somebody who 'couldn't access the lets meet up' forum.?
Compare that to the last time you read about somebody who couldn't access the new chatroom.
Also think about site crashes. On the odd occasion, the forum has a 'rattle out of the pram' moment and there is a total outage where nobody can access the pages.
The chatroom throws people out on a regular basis. Sometimes it just lasts afew seconds and people log back in, other times it shuts people out for a lengthy time period. As we all know, more than 20 seconds of site outage and the world will end for some people.
Finally, as I hinted in my first post. There may actually be a behind the scenes reason that is not being discussed in the public areas of the site as why the old chat server is still there and hasn't been taken down yet.
Sure, at some point in the future, I would expect the old chat server to either be orphaned or taken down, but while development is ongoing on the new chat (and the list of upcoming enhancements is looking great) old chat may just be needed on the odd occasion.

Therefore should SH now close the old Chat at the end of the month (30th November) ?

Sorry, but I believe the decision to close the old chatrooms should be left to admin. For all you know, there may be a valid reason why its still there wink

Help i cannot get into new chatrooms ,but can get into old one no probs is this a site issue or what

70 plus rooms, hundreds of people in there, so doesn't look like a site issue.

It is also slightly vexing that once I pop I can indeed stop.

The strapline of 'once you pop you just can't stop' isn't even believed by Pringles themselves.
Why do they provide you with a re-sealable lid dunno

Juicy,
This came up when a load of us were doing testing the other month. Apologies to SH/Admin if get this wrong, but we were advised that there was always a one room at a time limit when using the 'old' Chat rooms, however due to a bug in the then Chat software this 'limit' couldn't be enforced, so people could be in multiple rooms.
However with a ground up re-write of the Chat, away from Flash based, they've 'fixed' this bug and hence the one room at a time limitation.

The coding to prevent users from entering more than one chatroom at a time in the old system worked perfectly. However due to the instability of 'some' connections it was a frequent occurance for people to remain in rooms as ghosts. If the ghost remained in a temporary room, it wasn't too much of an issue. However if the user was left ghosted in one of the main 'landing rooms' on any server, it could actually prevent the user from re-entering chat until their ghost had been removed. By suspending the code blocking multiple room occupancy it was an aid to those users who suffered with less than stable connections.

Happy Birthday Mrs NWC. I hope you got a frying pan for your birthday. I just know you want to show me how good you are :giggle:
thanks everybody redface
I've now the very proud owner of a new android phone. :bounce::bounce:
Thank you Dawnie :inlove:
Apparantly I'm not supposed to use my index finger to type text messages and updates to the social networking sites. I'm supposed to use both my thumbs. banghead
How the hell?
Anyway, looks like the final present of the night might just be man flu :-)

is it just me or are people either too lazy or just down right rude when it comes to messaging
surely a simple no thanks is not too much to ask or if sending a message something a bit more than do you want a fuck might be nice

I have been recently made aware that after exchanging two pm's with somebody, they could, if theirs was enabled SHREP me with a 'site shrep'.
If my responses were not to their liking, I could find myself carrying a negative shrep.
This may very well be a valid reason for users with SHREP running being careful as to who they respond to.

Have they done away with being able to go into multiple room/servers or is this something that is available on Extras please ?

the old chat is still available at the moment. no extras needed.
Here's one I couldn't see on the list of known bugs.
Typing in main chatroom when I had an unread whisper tab in yellow.
when i clicked on an emoticon, it did not appear on my text that was in the main room.
when i eventually clicked on the whisper tab, there were the 8 or 9 emoticons cos I kept hitting the same one wondering why it wasn't appearing.
So, if you have an unviewed whisper, you can't use emoticons.
Or at least I can't in this session.

its the people that create the rooms that are going .......... to swinging sites !!

this is a swinging site.... says so on the tin. dunno
If you look at the forums, there are forums for meeting up and swinging, and forums for discussing the weather and potted plants.
So are you saying that unless you are actively trying to arrange a meet then you shouldn't venture into chat?
Personally, that's the last thing that enters my mind. I go into chat to have a laugh with mates.
Who is going to be brave enough to take their local swinging club to court?
That'll guarantee you get your five minutes of fame on the front page of the Bugle lol

blah...........blah.............

Shut up you, its excellent :bounce:
So, does Ian watch it 'under protest', or does he go find something else to do when it's on telly?
Oh, and I quite enjoy it too smile
She ties him to the chair and refuses him food unless he watches it....
lol She probably would too!
And it'd work, especially if pies were for tea :)
Or eggs! :giggle:
I am usually on my laptop when pop factor comes on the telly, although the last two weekends it's been pub o'clock to make sure I dont have to sit through it.
I have no problem with watching people with talent perform, it's the airheads and wannabees who spoil the show.
Imagine the scenario if x factor were replaced by the FA Cup. For the first thirty weeks of the show, you'll just see Red Lion Rovers having a kick about in the park with the Kings Tavern third eleven.
Quality TV is what we should have, and an immediate improvement would be to start it at the live final. (and that's singular not plural). If they can get through Eurovision Song Contest in one night, why ruin the season....
Any program where the gullible audience have to vote people on / off the following weeks show is a total waste of air time imho.
I'm sure if you google hard enough, you find out who has won this years trash factor. It's fixed I tell ya.
My only hope is that there will be another campaign to prevent the sad act (sorry winner) from claiming the Christmas No1 spot.

Does this answer your question or have I misunderstood what you're asking?

Bet you half a pint of warm beer she logged onto the new beta chat and didn't scroll down the log in page far enough to see the entry point for the old rooms.

I've just done that Cache Test and its appears i've found a Proxy.
What next? Ring my ISP in the morning and ask them to remove it??
Lilmiss

Have you got a friend? Can you take your computer around to their house.
If everything works from theirs, then your ISP is the problem.
If you are still experiencing the same issues, then its either your computers, or the site.
As there are currently over 1500 connections in the chatroom, I doubt that its the site thats the problem.
Either way, a trip to another location should start to verify what is at fault.

How about putting the "Launch Beta Chat" and "Launch Desktop Chat" links above "Extras Lounge" and "Enter The Chatroom" on the chatroom welcome page? Might get more people clicking through to the new chatroom.

I usually visit this site using a laptop set to 1280 x 800. screen resolution.
When I go to the chatroom page, I don't even see the 'click here for beta chat' button.
I'd have to scroll down the page to see it.
i only by 'happy eggs'. That's not a state of mind, its the brand

what's the parking like?

on street parking. The majority of streets are parking metered, but exempt from payments on a Sunday. It's also within walking distance of several car parks.
Happy to leave my car for a couple of hours, and never had any bother, but if it were something that 'attracted attention' then I'd be more inclined to park away from the venue and either walk or catch a taxi.
Sorry we are not going to make it this evening.
My broken ribs are just too sore to manage the journey over.

Maybe we should have a different name for each of sizes. For example a foo-foo should be able to snap a pencil lol
Can't wait for the admissions from our female members wink
