hey just thought id it say was nice chatting to any i chatted to on here. sadly this site seems not to be for me. bye xx

last seen two hours ago dunno
does the thread need deleting?
Some people get bombarded with responses and they choose not to reply unless they are interested.
I know people who are very specific in their adverts regarding the person they wish to meet. For example a certain location, being single and being able to accomodate etc. Those people who ignore these criteria and reply anyway, should they get a response?
There is now the added issue that for those of us with SHREP active. Once two pm's have been exchanged, then you can be shreped. Imagine the scenario
person 1..... can we meet
person 2..... no thanks
person 1..... your loss
person 2..... dont be so rude
person 1.... negative shrep - time waster -

See the chatroom is not working again can get in but cant change rooms this site must be the worst website on the internet for problems not surprised loads of people are leaving.

People leaving? What evidence do you have to support such a notion? The chatrooms are always busy. Streaming videos eat bandwidth, so many people connecting/disconnection all the time and SH servers receiving the traffic they appear to..things are going to be flunky everynow and again. I have no idea what the SH uptime is but it's going to be pretty good.
I have an apple tv box, it's always dropping in and out of service, my boradban connection varies from 1mb to 4mb when others are running close to 20, my freeview box locks up, my tv needs resetting my bobile phone constantly plays up...It's technology, it happens, live with it and raise your concerns in a diplomatic manner rather than bring the site down.
I've been disconnected a few times, I can't get on the chat sometimes *shrugs* it always comes back...so don't sweat the small stuff.

Unnecessary mouse movement?!
Blimey... I think perhaps I've heard it all now! :giggle:

Yeah, but you have to remember that this issue is only happening when people try to enter a room that is already full.
I guess they also walk up to doors that say 'pull' and give them a good push. lol
Surely if there are normally between 60 and 80 chatrooms to choose, why pick a full one?

Call it what you like, a moan, a rant, a whinge, unfair or tough; The fact of the matter is, whether you dissect parts or not, members are not being made aware to make their so called informed "choice" prior paying up.

So using this principle, I should contact my local council and demand to know the personal circumstances of the 'freeloaders' who choose not to / can't afford to pay their council tax, before I decide whether to pay mine in full. Somehow I don't think that would be an option.
I'm a licensed radio amateur and as such am a member of the national radio society. olduns who have fifty consecutive years membership don't pay any annual subscriptions. Now the fees I pay for membership to this society is on par with the annual charges to this web site. Was I informed about the wrinklies getting something for nothing before I joined - NO. Does it interfere with my enjoyment of the membership benefits - NO. Am I jealous that I have to pay and somebody doesn't - NO.
There are so many examples of every day life that I could give of 'unfair' systems.

The simple fact is that SH is being funded by only 72% of the members.

Can I challege your 'fact' ?
345000 members joined SH before Symbios took over.
1250000 (ish) membership now.
Therefore yes I agree you are looking at around a 28 - 72 % split.
However you make the wrong assumption that every single account that was registered since the take over was not a 'basic, can't do anything, but is free' account, and was in fact a paying account.
Correcting this will reduce your percentage quite dramatically.

It wont be until later they discover they aren't getting "selected" that it may all have been a rouse .....
Us ugly feckers don't have a prayer really :lol2:

Don't worry about not being selected for the club Steve.

There are still those that join up like we did 5 years or more ago believing that swinging means married couples getting it on together. Some folk feel uncomfortable outside of that belief.

As you are single, your not a swinger anyway lol

This is because in the more popular rooms, some people show themselves as busy for hours at a time, popping in and out all day (and night) just so that they can get back in when they decided to chat for 5 mins!! Does my head in that does!!

ahh yes, the towel on the sun lounger manouvre. lol
I'm not sure I like this suggestion of being logged out of chat if you don't type for a specific time period.
Imagine what would happen in the forums if people were logged out if they didnt post at least once an hour.
I join in conversations in the chatroom when I feel like I have something constructive to add to the discussion, but often I've got one eye on chat and one eye on something else (football, dawnie's ass, lunch etc) so would not be actively chatting.
Displaying additional information about the chatroom users would be possible, but only with the sacrifice of the chat window. Now I'm sure somebody is now going to tell me that the average line typed in the rooms over the next 3 hours is 27 characters long and so we could remove of chat window without any great loss, but is location the most appropriate information to add?
Personally if I wanted to meet somebody, distance would not be an issue. However should somebody be a smoker, or over a specific age, then next door might be too far away lol

Ok, is anyone actually bothered by this????
Don't seem to be receiving much 'support' about this matter, so have now raised a ticket with support, maybe that will actually resolve the issue......

Hi Sara
There are currently around 500 separate connections into chat, so for many, there is no issue.
'Support' over the Christmas holiday is, I'm guessing severely limited. I know that for my 'day time job' I've set out of office auto response on my emails, left a voicemail message that my mobile is turned off until 4th Jan. So, I'll guess that the SH office is currently closed and that certain members of staff will be logging on intermittently over the holiday period to check for support issues.
My comment is written not to start a flame about whether the site should offer 24/7/365 hardware and software support, moreover the fact that the response times during the holiday period may be longer than normal.

Hi all
First chatroom post and it's a complaint, whey hey, good start!
Just wondering why there aren't more specific permanent rooms in the chatroom area. There seems to be some regular rooms that people use all the time that always seem to be in there and then some good one's that get started then just forgotten after a few days!
I'm sure I and other would find it useful if there were location specific rooms (ie. London, North East, West Mids, etc) that were made permenant and some of the other bigger ones like , Bi Married meets, BBW etc.
Can the site op's sort this out??

Firstly, no the chatroom op's can't sort this out. Admin might be able to though.
Permenant regional rooms have been tried before however there was a 'power struggle' by people either wanting to control the rooms, believing they should have room host status, or boycotting the room and setting up their own version of the same room when they didn't have contol.
One of the items on the 'to do list' with the chatroom programmers is the ability to pass on room host from one person to another, or maybe even to have multiple room hosts.
My own personal opinion, is that once these controls are installed and working (and before you ask, no I don't have any dates) then the above could become a viable proposition.
Dawnie writes the cards for her side of the family, I write the cards for my side of the family.
It's much easier now, cos we used to print a monthly magazine (geeky, nerdy subject) with a good friend of mine. We ran the magazine for ten years and each year sent a Christmas card to all of the subscribers. We always wrote every card by hand and at its peak we each had to sign over 800 cards. We used to begin in October lol
Admitted now I'm getting a little more considerate of the environment and prefer to make a donation to charity than send cards to work colleagues. We have a poster from Macmillan's where we can post greeting messages for all to see. Not quite as personal, but has more significance for us.

But nobody from the other side took a blind bit of notice of it rolleyes

throws the word "publically" to be randomly inserted where ever you wish.
Unless of course you have received a pm rejecting your request wink
How long do these things take then?
There is a list longer than your arm of updates, modifications and additional requirements for the chatrooms, both public and 'behind the scenes'. Priority is being given to stability and functionality issues. Niceities are still on the list, however they are not such high priority. The chatroom will still work without an emoticon.
Yes, I'd agree that a response of the request is good. I'm sure during working hours one may be forthcoming.

I've said this before, but it pays to add the chat ops and mods to your favourites list. That way you can see straight away who's on line, where they are on the site, and send them a message/IM them. ;-)

Isn't that taken from 'an idiots guide to stalking' ? bolt
Oi! You calling me a stalker??!! smackbottom

Well I got a recipe book, but that don't make me a chef wink

I hate that advert and actually boycott the store. It's sexual discrimination that wouldn't be allowed in reverse.
That's why Dad's go to Halfords.... I think not.
Anyway, my advert is not for a shop / service, its for a tv program.
Coronation Street. Four funerals and a wedding.
Like we care ! Those that watch the inane drivel know its on, those that don't are watching the football lol
Apart from I keep clicking on the second forum down the list assuming it's the cafe

Ben,
Spotted the new Setting for Whispers as well ?
So now have Allow all, Authorise, and No whispers (or whatever wording is)
with Authorise being the new setting so that you can allow or deny whispers from a user, a nice enhancement and one that many have been asking about for quite some time.

Im really liking the new authorise setting, although it is a bit of a pain that you have to set it every time you go into chat
If like me you clear all settings in your browser when you leave chat then yes, you have to reset it each time you log back in. If however you are less security conscious you should find your settings remain

Would you take the offer of surgery on your sex bits, if it was at no cost to you.

About five years ago, I had to have a surgical procedure on my undercarriage.
When I woke up from the anasthetic I was black and blue from my knees to my waist, and unable to work for a month....
It certainly would make me think twice about letting anybody else near me wearing a white gown and carrying a knife.

Or a single parent

Very true, but I didn't include that option due to the op's profile and thread showing:-
travel, meet today and available at weekends. I wouldn't expect many single parents to have the luxury of such freedom / flexibility.

I'm afraid as a single guy you are kinda swimming upstream here as the odds are against you.

And a single guy who doesn't say that he can accomodate rings warning bells for many of the site members. Really single? or still living with his mum? wink

I work with a girl who has strong catholic beliefs. She says that if she were to marry, then divorce would not be an option in the eyes of her church, but to murder her husband and then repent is acceptable.
So that's why she keeps a sharpened axe under her desk lol

Is there any chance of a sticky posted in this section with a list of the tested/recommended versions of browsers and add-ons (Adobe Flash Player etc) plus links to where these can be downloaded.
Admin can then update this as and when and users will have a single reference point to check they are up-to-date.

Excellent idea. Only thing I would add to this is exactly how does a user find out what version they are running. Without meaning to be offensive in any way, often the people who have been experiencing connection issues have not been the most I.T. savvy.
Personally I'm using
Firefox
Adobe Flash Player version 10,1,85,3
To find out the version of firefox, click on 'Help' then click on 'About Mozilla Firefox'.
To find out the version of flash you are using, go to this link
