North of the M42, past Brum, maybe half way towards the M1, travelling north, on the left hand side there is what appears to be a church/abbey stuck on the top of a hill – does anyone know what it is?
So there you go, starter for ten …………..

Castle Donnington?
Hi Kaz,
We would love to come to your birthday party. Can we please be added to the list?

but, lets assume you are Joe Bloggs walking down the street minding your own, and someone's smoke alarm is beeping, and it's not switching off, and they're not in.... what do you do?

I think I would ring for the fire brigade but explain to the person taking the call that it looks at though no one is in and then they can make the choice of whether to send the fire brigade there or not dunno - the chances are if they are asleep that the smoke could have got to them before the fire brigade did. I don't think the fire brigade would think it was a hoax call or anything, I'm sure they would rather check it out than have someone die in the house.

The cyclist may of had the right to be there, but cycling on a major A road is stupid. I hate cyclists, they are the most law breaking of all road users. NO tax, no insurance, no lights, go through red lights, up one way streets the wrong way. I'm afraid that is the majority, not the minority.

Sounds like a lot of road users to me, does this comment!
The arrogance of the bike rider doesn't seem to be the topic here, as if riding a bike makes you arrogant (more like it makes you fitter!), the arrogance of the other road users seems more appropriate. If people were less angry when driving I'm sure there would be less accidents.
Hi there,
I'm sorry but we can't attend this night out after all redface

Hi Sassy,
Is it possible that me and Mrs CCR can come out on the Donny expedition please. We live not too far away so hotels not an issue.
More the merrier....hopefully.
Thanks

A long time ago in a childhood far, far, away............
Marine Boy (break out the oxygum!)
Funky Phantom (Heavens to Murgatroyd!)
The original Scooby Doo (long before that irritating little s**t Scrappy Doo)
Brave Starr (Strength of the bear!!)
There are more but have to say I really could not abide Top Cat!
Mr CCR
It's funny really, but we have also already contemplated this morbid, but very interesting topic too.
We both want California Dreaaming by the Mamas and Papas because we have been a couple of times and there are so many fantastic memories.
Mrs CCR would also have Nymphettemine by Cradle of Filth (it's a fantastic track really) and My immortal by Evanescence.
For my others I would have Summer Breeze by the Isley Brothers beacause it is just so summery and I love the guitar riff and Thats the Way of The World by Earth Wind and Fire, simply because they have always been my favourite band since being a teenager which was absolutely yonks ago now.
Great tracks, almost makes me want to rush out to the Co-op and get measured up for my wooden overcoat. Shame I won't be able to hear them played though!!
Mr CCR
Mrs ccr has recently had one on her back, between her shoulder blades. It is something she has wanted for ages and finally plucked up the courage to go ahead and have it done.
As for myself, I have been thinking about it for years but have not yet taken the plunge. I know the design I want, where on my body it will go and (following from Mrs ccr) I know the guy who would do it. The pain does not bother me it is the permanence of the thing that prevents me from having it done.
Who knows, I may yet take the plunge!

I like reading foreign travel books where someone has made a new life for themselves abroad - Carol Drinkwater (ex actress) has done a couple of books about her life, meeting her new man and settling down in France, the 'Provence' series that came out a few years ago and I think Bill Bryson takes some beating as well smile
there is an excellent spoof travel guide book called Molvania, A Land Untouched By Modern Dentistry, I had tears rolling down my face reading that one biggrin
Just lately though its been a case of reading for studying more than pleasure, so this is a excellent thread to get me back on track for some new titles to read!

(Hope no-one needs to, but the offer is there)
Roads round here are pretty good at the moment, so hopefully it should be a pretty good journey for everyone.
